The Race Is On!

PLACE YOUR BETS!!!

N/A HJ60 vs. 3B-T62.

Quarter mile? Top end?

Caveat: Both running B99 (or B100) biodiesel!!!

Tofudy,

Don't make me call the girl with the rover.

Thanks Charles (cruiser_guy) for this great tech info:

Mel, the A/C brackets for the 3B are nearly unobtainium!! I paid $300 for mine. You'll also need the A/C amplifier because the gasser one doesn't work (it needs a coil signal, something the diesel DOESN'T have). A friend of mine has one for sale in the diesel parts section now.
If you go with power steering you may also need to change the alternator as they are on the same bracket as the power steering pump and the geometry is slightly different on the alternator.
Check the crank pulley as well. The old ones have only two bolt holes and do not hold the power steering or altenator pulleys on. The one you need has 6 bolt holes.
As you can see, it's not that easy!

I will be using the 62 power steering box, and possibly the pump.

Billy G husk sent me these pictures of a diy ps mount on his 3b.

His system places the pump above the box.

This will allow me to reuse alt.

I am going to run the 62 ac compressor in a 3b ac bracket I picked up from Isohbie.

The bracket came w/o a idler pulley, so I am still searching for one.

Not too sure about the ac amplifier.

My 3b crank pulley is the basic 2 hole model. Gunnar is tapping 4 new holes and adding 2 pulleys from a toyo van.

This will be my new 3b triple pulley. The toyo van parts fit right on the current single 3b pulley.

The 3fe pulley won't fit on the 3b.

Scavenging all parts from the bj........

The bj60 engine mounts will need to be welded to the 62s frame.

Check out my 78 volvo wagon.......

It is my current dd.

Yeah, I painted the wagon wheels.

The volvo can carry many cruiser parts at once.

Al refers to it as a 2wd smushed 60.

rusty parts + sandblast + primer = good stuff

See ya later rust!

Most tombstone/ monument places will blast rusty parts for you.

I paid $100 for the following to be blasted:

bj hood ( this will be my practice hood for adding a scoop)
shroud
transmission tunnel cover
tranny shifter
xfer shifter
rear bumper (thanks AL)
radiator skid
pedal buckets
pedals
vac line
pulley
radiator brackets
fuel filler neck
battery trays

The primer was $25 at wal mart

I did not cut it with any acetone or thinner.

note $20 Wal Mart paint gun works great!

after

I used my $20 wal mart paint gun to prime the parts.

1000 thanks Al for the bumper.....

That's it on the pallet after being blasted and primed.

I will be painting all these parts different colors.

I painted the grill and headlight buckets from the bj.

The paint used is rattle can "hammered" finish Rustoluem.

I am pretty happy with the results.

I won't be using these parts on the project.

Here is some good info:

thanks 3puttcop

I really like the hammered paint. It hides uneven surfaces.

Although it looks textured, the finish is smooth.

I am surprised this radiator still functioned properly.

It must be the original radiator.

Because of the addition of a/c, I will be upgrading to a 4 core.

The 62 radiator wont work because of the dual battery trays.... it is too wide.

The inlet/ outlets are also in the wrong place.

I will need another t stat housing that points to the drivers side for the new radiator.

Unlike other Toyota motors, you can't flip it 180* to point the opposite way.

The 81 model bj60 has a t sat housing pointing to the passenger side.

The 82+ models point to the drivers side.

The change was made to allow p/s to be mounted on the 3b.

Very awesome man, I tell ya those chrome trims are the devil.

I put the white wagons on to keep the chromies from being snatched.

The white wheels really de-bling the truck. They give it a "basic" look.

I am going to keep them on there to be different.

These pictures were taken at night. Sorry for the low resolution.

I'll snap a few more detailed pictures in the day light.

The painted engine compartment turned out really nice.

Special thanks to Gunner and his neighbor Frank.

Frank is in charge of the welding.

Gunner has been providing much needed automotive experience and expertise.

My truck is out side his shop.

These two can just about repair ANYTHING.

Gunner has done cruiser v8 conversions and some cruiser restorations.

His forte is RX7s.

Frank is a metal fabricater.

Note my 10thAE RX7 on his rack.

Here is the 60s pedal bucket.

It is required to add a manual transmission to a 62..

The 62 pedal bucket is missing the provisions for the clutch pedal and master.

While the dash is out, I will also be installing the diesel gauges in the 62 cluster.

The gauges bolt in the 62 dash.

Hopefully the guages sub harness will swap over as well.

After 3 hours of scrubbing, the transmission and transfer are clean.

Note Ih8mud salute.

JohnnyBoy- I am keeping the squares.

I always liked the 62 lights.

There is no good sheet metal on the bj.......

even the core support couldn't be reused.

(sorry AL)
