Hello All on Ih8mud,

My name is Jeffry. I've been lurking for a while now and learned a great deal. So now its time to share some of the stuff I'm doing.

For 4 years i've been driving a tired BJ40 from 1979 in the Netherlands. I've done some upgrades like old man emu 2,5" lift and disc brake conversion front.
Now because of the rust bug eating away happily at the body I decided to go full blown on it.

I've bought an hdj80 from '92 with 1HD-T and manual gearbox. My fellow countryman and forum member Troopie just finalised the swap in his BJ45. So I'm bluntantly coping Mark's engine setup ;).

I will prepare the car for overland traveling aswell as a "genuine" daily driver. I needs to be a very solid restomod.

The major work and components I want to do:
  • Alu teseven body
  • Homemade aluminium front panels, grille and front window frame
  • Restore oem hardtop
  • Homemade winch bumper, front and swingout rear
  • Galvanise chassis
  • 1HD-T swap, intercooler, webasto, etc?
  • Gearbox: need more info on possibilities. Keep the 80 manual box or swap for H55F box.
  • Homemade in cab longrange fuel tank under the seats
  • Power steering 60 housing
  • Alloy AR wheels (icon syle)
  • Disc conversion rear
  • lockers front an rear (e-locker or 70 series cable??)
  • Stainless exhaust
  • 255/85/16 bfgoodridge

Thats it in general. I'm sort of new to the landcruiser community so a lot to learn and soak up for me.
Currently I'm struggeling the gearbox setup. I could swap over the entire engine and GB assembly from the 80 series in the 40 frame. Could be that the R151 gearbox would not be the best fit or best charachter for my setup. I really would like to have some advice from the experts on this one. Maybe its better to swap if for a h55f? Any help and info much appreciated.

Looking forward to the project. Exciting!
Cheers Jeffry

Welcome to Mud Jeffry!

Nice looking cruiser, let the fun begin!

I don't think you want an R151 behind a 1HD-T, H151 or H55 IMHO

Welcome and congrats on a very nice project.

Dump the R151 idea and go for the H55F with splitcase combo out of a 75 ser etc. The H151 or H150 might be too long in your frame.

Looking forward to the build. I just purchased a vehicle with the B3 & H55 though it has not been delivered yet. Will be happy to share any information or photos.

Where are you in located in Holland?

Thanks I will start reading. Ah Uden, yes been there before. :)
In the meantime I've created the front panel in Solidworks. Will be cut from 2mm aluminium.
More stuff to draw:
Sidepanels
Front window frame. This will be a complex one because of all the channeling in it. But I think I will manage somehow.
Longrange fueltank

I'm currently doubting to buy front fenders or build them from scratch in aluminium...

Cheers!

That was really usefull read. Has exactly all the stuff I would need.
I will go down that conversion route as that has a proven path.

A little progress on some more aluminium sheetmetal, altough in CAD still. I've measured the window frame to have it laser cut from aluminium. Complex bit of engineering to make it as close to original as possible and not weld endless meters of aluminium :)
Cheers

Yesterday I spend a long day pulling engines from landcruisers :)
The 1HDT is removed from the donor vehicle, and I went straight on with the 40 to pull the engine and gearbox.
I sourced a h55f gearbox that would fit the 1HDT straight away because it already has the 1 HZ bellhousing. I'm picking it up this week. Then I will drop in the 1HDT and make new motormounts.

Now for the mandatory pics :)

The frame will require a bit more work then I expected... Has some rot aspecially in the front.
Cheers
