Big Brakes - 14 Inch Rotors Wilwood Calipers

I am glad you let us know the stock caliper won't fit a 14" rotor. I guess I will be going with that TC6. Thanks
yeah, unfortunately the stock calipers will not work on a big rotor. The pad material will hang off the rotor and the way the two halves bolt together it is not possible to remove any material from the caliper to fit a large diameter. I had planned to machine the oem calipers but it is not possible.

Yeah that was kind of my plan too, but I did look at the Wilwoods. I will be using a 15" (380mmx34mm) rotor so I will be using the TC6 but sounds like the way I have to go.

I did a bit of searching on the subject of Wilwood calipers with no dust boots. There are lots of people getting many miles and track laps without problems. Also, the dynalites are standard fare for dirt track cars that run in chloride treated tracks, also with no issues. I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't be careful about keeping them clean, just that it looks like it should work just fine.
On another note, Jegs has dust shields listed for Wilwood calipers. No idea how they go on, but they do have them

Wilwood makes 2 or maybe 3 caliper lines that have dust boots, they usually have aluminum pistons as well. The ones without the dust boots have stainless pistons. Dust boots would be nicer but not the end of the world.

friggin sweet dude,
bring it up to Camarillo and show the guys what you did.
I worked there for a bit CNC programming, and begged them daily to let me at it....kept getting shrugs, "not a big enough market.." excuses.

Dave,
You worked at Wilwood, cool.... Do you still have contacts there?
They'er right, definitely low volume, but I'm amazed what some spend on their 80s. I'm sure they would make $$$ on the regular stock items calipers/rotors and just need to charge a little extra for the hat/bracket to bolt it on. But, probably very low on their radar.

Yes - this. Brakes = muy importante on built trucks plus they typically fly through the :princess: approval board. No brainer. I'd consider 17" or larger rims for good brakes

The big brakes are a no brainer. Everyone loves to go fast and completely ignore stopping fast. Always makes me shake my head. The sheer bulk of these trucks warrants better brakes.

I would pay some serious money to buy this as a 'plug and play' kit. Being able to run larger wheels and tires AND having brakes to equate seems like a no brainer to me.

Great write up !!

Exchanged a quick PM with Mark (1FZj80) and if you folks are ok waiting on this a little bit while I do the footwork on my wide to be able to replicate 1FZj80's efforts. I have a LOT of plates spinning right now so I need to start completing a few of those before I take this one on. The good news is some of the stuff I will be working on will be with the same shops I will be working on this with so I can kill two birds without taking away time on the current projects but still moving this one forward.

In the meantime I suppose I need to order some parts in don't I? :(

YES!!!! Count me in 100%!

Already have 17s. Ready to sign up for the group buy.

Also looking for a good diesel swap!

Correct neither of those are part of the upgrade. Just old failing systems. Try and price out a new ABS pump.... Lol

HA yeah ain't happening. BUT I do have CA insurance to consider. I've been told point blank do NOT remove any brake components or I am utterly screwed if I'm involved in an accident. Specifically "remove".
