Should I try to meet up with the group in the town of Marathon?Stream, I have the camp sites planned with some daytime adventures planned too. We can discuss as a group to see if everyone wants to do something else. Still looks like 6 or 7 rigs, PM me for my home address or we could just pick a spot to all meet. I'm thinking of taking HWY90 unless you think I10 is better.
Vince, yes last time I went we met up at a little pizza place before entering the park. I will try and find the name of it and let you know
The dates are February 19th -22nd. I have a couple of hikes planned. Wanted to get thoughts on group dinner cooks or everyone does their own?
I don't know how strict they are but they don't allow dogs in the backcountry or on hiking trails.I'm entertaining the idea of bringing my german shepherd along to save on dog sitting fees. since I've never been, I'm looking to y'all to enlighten me if that's a good or bad idea. Thanks.
Only the Rio Grande Village Campground have a generator area but past 8PM, I think, they have to be off. No generator use in the backcountry. Thanks Cimarron. That settles that argument.
I picked the 9:30 time so we would not need to rush to get there. Thought we might not have everyone show on time, we would depart around 10 stop atmy local HEB for supplies then hit the road going hwy90 (slower speeds) might find something interesting to stop at along the way which will still be fine for us getting to the meeting spot around 3:30. Sunday is open, thinking we could have a camp breakfast then maybe pick something to see in the park on our way out then hit the road. This way everyone should have a little daylight to unpack once we get back home.
Jeff
Still a bit far out to look at the weather but the 10 day forecast for the park looks good. High in the 70's low in the high 40's. We will miss the new moon by a day but the night sky will still be nice and dark for star gazing with the lack of light pollution out there.
