nar!

FWIW, unless you own an auto machine shop, current wisdom is that a new short block is cheaper than rebuilding.

You might find a used engine in classifieds here. Sorry about the bad news.
Yep, I'm looking! It's too bad I missed out on that 1FZ in KC!

Have a 1FZ I picked up to rebuild for $100 because Cyl 1 looks like this haha, injector went bad. Check your injectors and wiring harness

That's interesting!

On the engine you bought, was it the injector itself, or the wiring? The way that wiring harness sits up against those heater hoses in the back of the engine seems like it rife for heat-related wiring problems...

A buddy of mine just pulled his 1FZ out of his '97 (LS swapped now). He's been holding it for me, but I don't need it.

Dude owns a big auto shop and knows what he's doing.

The engine has been stored inside.

Fastenal does very good and very affordable shipping (Blue Line). I've used it a number of times. You'll have a Fastenal location in St. Louis.

Shoot me a DM if you're interested.

I have a 1fz core if ya need. Has most of the accessories on it. $600.

Delete the EGR and most of those heat issues go away.

I have a rebuilt 1fz that I was going to put into my 94 but decided to go a different route. Located in Houston, PM me if your interested.

Sorry it's been a awhile since I posted an update... the holidays and a couple of crazy weeks at work have kept me away from MUD.

I got hooked up with @Old Nick's buddy in Northern Kentucky and purchased the 1FZ-FE/A343F combo that Old Nick mentioned earlier in this thread. Rented a U-Haul pickup and drove down this past Monday, January 19 and collected it. Only a 157K on the clock.

It is currently with a local shop in St. Louis that is going to do some degree of rebuild on in. At minimum, I'm thinking we'll do all new gaskets and seals (including the pan gaskets and rear main seal), water pump, and timing chain guides, and combine the best accessories from both engines. The shop said they would also assess the conditions of the piston rings and potentially replace those if needed. At that point, since they're out, it might make sense to do rod bearings as well. Basically, all of the "while its out" stuff.

I'll keep the thread updated as things progress, hopefully with pictures if they don't mind me hanging around their shop too much!

Very unusual for these motors 😔
Sorry for your loss.

Right on, brother! As @Broski said, sorry that things had to go this direction, but very glad that I could help to hook you up with a good dude and the things that you needed. Looking forward to seeing things develop.

Another update...

It's been a awhile, but the shop has been diligently making progress. They got the "new" engine tore down in about 2 weeks after I dropped it off on MLK day. Everything looked great on the donor! Rod and main bearings were practically brand new. Piston rings were very dirty, as were the valves, but nothing abnormal for age. The block and the head were thoroughly cleaned. Valves were lapped, and new OE piston rings were installed. Oil pump was perfect and was cleaned. Timing chain was in spec. Chain guides were replaced with new OE. Water pump was replace with new OE. Block got a coat of black paint. Everything was reassembled with all new gaskets and seals. Short block was finished as of March 6, and I had the truck towed to the shop on March 9.

Short block was dressed using virtually all of the components from my existing engine. They flow-tested all twelve injectors and installed the best six. The blow engine had a lot of new components--P/S pump, EGR valve and vacuum modulator, etc.--all of which was moved over. The donor A343F was cleaned and got a new pan gasket. On Thursday, March 19, they informed me that they were getting the engine and transmission assembled.

The engine was installed earlier this week, and they are in the process of getting everything hooked up and reinstalled. Hopefully within two weeks, I will have the old gal back!

This is good because, unfortunately, my 100-series got totalled on March 11. Long story short, I got t-boned by a commercial vehicle and flipped on my side! Luckily I was not injured. Still working through a settlement with insurance, which is a bummer.

I'll post some pics when I have a bit more time...
