Wyoming fishing....The good, the bad, and the ugly...
Didn't want to start a new thread so here it goes...
The Good,
Peggy and I took a week off and went to WY for a bit of fly fishing, expo, camping, R&R etc. Awesome time. Found some remote and rather inaccessible spots that made the Cruiser worth taking. We met a guide at a local shop and he told us about the WY cut slam. I had never heard of it but WY has four sub species of cut throat trout and you get a certificate when you photo document you caught all four in their native basins. A day later we got to thinking about it and it sounded like fun. Turned out to be a great way to explore new areas. Here is a very condensed recap.
One of many nice camps
Peggy and me with Snake R. cuts
I later caught another Snake River cut in a small stream that was in the 14"-16" range but didn't get a pic.
Not to be deterred by the reports of recent grizzly activity we hiked up a small creek and got these Yellowstone cut beauties! Peggy was carrying bear spray and I had a side arm so we felt reasonably prepared.
We then went after the Bonneville (small range) and the Colorado. Having only gotten Brookies when in the Bonneville range, we jumped to the CO range close by and Peggy hooked a huge Colorado cut but lost it during landing. It was about 8:30 pm so we decided to call it a day. See the rest below.
The Bad,
Sorry I have to rant a bit. Why do people feel compelled to use fire circles as trash cans? Is the trash going to magically disappear? News flash, glass and metal don't burn!! I am so tired of cleaning up broken and melted glass, aluminum foil, metal cans, and melted plastic. When plastic does burn it gives off nasty fumes. Pack out your garbage. Next, toilet paper. Move away from camp and bury it or pack it out! Ok, rant off.
The Ugly,
Soooo... hiking out I was climbing up the steep river bank. I started sliding down standing up then my feet went out from under me. My right elbow caught the ground as I fell and pulled it high above my shoulder resulting in a "pop". Sooo not good. Suffices to say I landed in a lot of pain and then had to wade two crossings to get to a place to get out. Those hurt as well.
The next day I fished left handed for a while and Peggy hooked and lost what might have been a Bonneville cut and I got a couple of Whitefish. We decided to come home early by mid afternoon. Saw an orthopedic Thurs and MRI late yesterday. He is thinking torn rotator cuff but I won't know for sure until next week when we get the MRI results. I think there is good chance my summer playing is over, but it still maybe that it was just the joint popping out and back in and not the tearing of the rotator cuff. Currently have limited use/range of motion of my right arm, though it has improved a bit due to the Prednisone.
One thing is for sure, we are both going back to complete the "slam"!
