i know some of you have an auxiliary fuel tank could you post pics of where you put it and how you fill it. i'm looking at adding a tank and looking for ideas.

thanks in advance.

I replaced the stock tank with a custom 40 gallon one(pictures in my build thread around page 22 or posts 430):

Since the pictures, it has gotten a HD skid plate.

What hose did you source to fill that John? Nice!

What are you guys doing for a pickup?

I'm getting ready to cut my tank apart and add 4 Walbro in-tank pickups, I was starving for fuel when I dropped down under ¼ and climbed up a steep hill.

Here's my 55gal MAF tank I had refinished, mounts to stock location but you have to move the spare:

I have a 22gal AUX that mounts on the DS between the frame rail and Drive shaft, not sure if I'm going to re-install:

That last pic looks like Pig nipples. Sorry, had to say it!

When you cut yours open, will you try to grab some pics of the stock internal tubing layouts for feed line, return line and vent lines?

Thanks!

On the first page of my build thread is a picture of the tank I built, I put the pickup in the stock location without giving it much thought but I was having some issues on my last outing and the tank is out while the pig is getting sandblasted so now is the time to change it.

I’ll try to grab some pictures when I get to that part.

The OM617 has a built in lift pump in addition to the primer and IP, I'm just using the gravity feed from the stock fuel pickup and getting plenty of fuel. This tank is baffled, but never had issues even off-camber.

On my tank, I am using a stock 99 Camaro fuel pump assembly to feed my Chevy 6.0L.

I have the fuel pump assembly at the front end of the tank where the FJ55 tank access cover opens in the rear of the FJ55.

The tank also has some internal baffling.

The Camaro fuel pump sending unit has about 1/4 gallon "cup" that the fuel pump sits in.

Have you driven up a long steep incline with low fuel level?

I thought about making a reservoir with check valves similar to the setup you’re talking about but the Walbro in-tank pickups seemed like a cheap easy solution and I’m starting to get lazy and need to get this pig going soon.

Was it from a Bitchin' Camaro? (sorry, I had a little Dead Milkmen flash-back and had to make a trip to YouTube)

Ahhhh...I have one of those in my rust bucket 55. It was kind of crude looking so I thought maybe it was homemade. I was told by the PO it was 55 gallons and it sure looked it, but I had not seen another one that looked like it.

It seemed to work OK in the rust bucket... I think it had some pickup issues or venting issues, I ran out of gas when I don't think I should have... but it's possible it just didn't have as much in it as we thought it did too. I have thought about pulling it out and putting it in my nice pig if it's in good enough shape. It would be nice to have 55 gallons for some long desert stretches where there aren't gas stations for a 100 miles.

What injection pump do you have? Just be careful not to get a pump with too high a pressure if you have a VE pumped 4bt. You'll have all sorts of leaks on the IP.

I have a P-Pump and plan on using the standard manual lift.
Are you saying the Walbro in-tank pickups don't work with the diesel fuel or the volume of fuel the 4BT requires?

Thanks for the heads up!

I thought you meant that you were going to use an in-tank pump. You should be good to go using the stock manual lift pump (there are two kinds..older diaphragm and newer piston) and the pickups.
