I suspect the carby to be at fault.
My driving style is a little heavy, but ive owned many v8s. So the need to drive it hard ain't there anymore. I'm using MR-PIG as a daily commuter as i have done with a my v8 cars. Ive never had worse economy.
Its a square bore vac sec 600 Holley.
The power valve is OK. Std 6.5" unit.
There is a distinct dud spot around 2500RPM during anything above very light acceleration. From what i can put it down to, the secondaries are coming in to early and to fast. As i don't have a sec spring kit i fitted 2 std springs. This made a big improvement however is still not correct. It is during this dud spot i get a fuely smell through the exhaust. According to Holley tech page. I need to fit a heavier spring !
As a test, i will fit my 650 mech sec demon that's on my turbo charged 308cu motor. I'm just waiting on some AN (JIC) fittings to arrive so i can plumb it in.
Change subject.
The shroud.
I don't think i need one to SOLVE my problem.
After work yesterday i braved a hot radiator & removed the engine driven fan and fitted the 16" thermo from my other v8. I took the pig for a drive & it got a lot hotter & quicker.
I then removed the thermo & refitted the engine fan.
If this 16" thermo fan can cool a solid cammed, high stalled, turbocharged 308cu motor & it can't cool a mild SBC, then the SBC has problem.
So today i noticed the radiator hoses become very stiff with pressure after a quick trip to work. Engine temp is only 190. That's below water boiling point. So i thought maybe i have a tiny compression leak into the water system. I brought a tin of Chemi-weld and followed the instructions. I did notice b4 i added it, running the engine without the radiator cap on i had foaming from the radiator. Chemi-weld is great stuff, and if i have a porus block/head/gasket this will fix it. Will know tomorrow when i get to work
Either way, i plan to replace the head gaskets in the near future.
