Few pics of the new fuel tank that Kane from Komited Kustoms is making me. Its a direct copy of the one that was already in there (except without all the rust). When we test fitted what Kane had built so far we relised we should have checked how well the original fitted in the first place as it doesn't hug the transmission tunnel as well as it could, but it'll do.

Tank is all finished now, and will get painted with 2pac next week in the same colour as the 40. Also going to start drawing up a new centre consule to fit to the tank as the old mdf one is looking pretty shabby.

Some pics..

With the lid on, showing the rhs that the seats mount to.

The internal baffles. On the drivers side the bottom of the tank steps down about 50mm over a 300mm sqaure and the fuel to the engine is drawn in there. (forget to get pics of that)

Awesome job!
How many liters is this fuel tank?

Roughly 140 Litres.

Twisty is selling it as he is now going to run a fuel cell under the body so we can lower the seat height by 4".

Sharing the cab with 140 litres of PETROL?

I think I'd still feel nervous even if it was diesel!

Yep, even better when the seats are actually bolted to it. Its been scaring me ever since I've owned the 40. I should have changed it when the original 140l tank rusted out, but I took the easy way out and copied what was there. Am looking forward to driving a lot safer 40 when all the current work is finished.

Looking good Bursabaju!

Mine is a metallic silver, but the paint is looking very average these days. The clear coat is gone in a few spots, and then there is my rattle can touch ups around the rear. Looks ok in pictures, but in real life its not real good.

It'll probably get some nice new silver 2pac next year all going well.

Hey Twisty, I too am fitting a fuel cell and have spoken to an engineer that will sign off on it, as long as it's mounted properly... how exactly are you thinking of mounting yours and are you planning on mounting it behind or in front of the rear axle?
Love the 40 by the way, and the cage looks brilliant! You don't suppose Brooksy would make up another and ship it down to Vic?!:hmm:

Hey Davs, Cell will be mounted behind the rear diff, under the floor. Hopefully with no major mods, but its going to be a tight fit with my diff back 5" from standard.

Fuel cell is a RCI2162A 15 Gallon (57 litres) tank, measuring 30"x12"x9" (762x305x230). Got it from Rocket Industries - The Leaders in Performance Products for $405 delivered. Mounting it will be Brooksys problem, hehe. If it arrives in the next few days it'll probably happen over the weekend, so will have pics soon.

Once mine & Twisty's cages are done I will be making a few more cages with the A - B pillar the same & variants to the rear. Just got to get all the other jobs done first.

that tank is massive man. i bet youll be glad when u have a fuel cell and all that extra space under your seat.

Yep, as the cage I have made with the intention of lowering the seat height by 4".
15 Gallon RCI cell arrived today along with some more tube & a new die for the JD2.
Another busy weekend planned.

relating back to pics you posted of the rear bumper in parts only.

nice work mate, you sure have got me thinking of designing and getting the platework lazer cut for bumper on the front of my FJ.

If you can afford it definately get them cut as it makes for a better more consistant finish. I am lucky as I have access to a Torchmate for nothing. A very ggod mate has his own with custom table roughly 7'x5'.

Headed down to Brooksys on the weekend and we made some more progress on the cage. Still got lots of bits and peices to sort.

First thing was remove the 140l fuel tank and seats and the 75 series steering column. Then swapped in a standard 40 series steering column (big tanks to Ray185 for modding it to suit p/steer) to help with getting the new seating position right. Really happy at the height of the seats now.

New seat rails.
