It's great to see a a well built and good looking 40 in such beautiful terrain! All the pictures, video, and updates have encouraged me to get going on my BJ42.

Would you be able to post up a few pics of how you mounted the rear shocks. I'm trying to come up with a strong, yet aesthetically pleasing way to mount the rear shocks on my SOA.

Thanks!

Cheers mate

Rear shock mounts moved to the opposite side of the cross memember. Made a simple mount with some RHS with a bolt welded through it. I think I moved the top in around 1" either side. (More details should be somewhere in the previous pages of this thread).

Never thought I'd remove it when I bought the 40, but its now the 40s last night as a hardtop.....................................

WHY????

Cause I've been smashing windows in it, and dinting/hitting it everyone time I go offroad. I wanted a cage either way, so the roof had to come off, but now its off, i dont reckon it'll be going back on :D

The top came of pretty easy, except for the bolts above the windscreen. For some stupid reason, there was hidden bolts holding it to the windscreen surround, that were completely incased in the hardtop, as in no access to them at all.

Ended up leavering the top off, and it seperated from the bit bolted to the windscreen. Not sure if they are all like this, or if its a aftermarket roof thing, but it seems you would have to build the roof on the truck with resin etc. Anyway, got a standard top to replace mine to sell with the rest of the hardtop.

Few pics.

Leavering it off.

This bit that was left, with the hidden bolts.

Your vehicle is so cool...
I really like your vehicle.

Cheers guys

So, below are some pics of what Brooksy and I are using for inspiration. Main goals are:
-Family style cage so the rear seat can be re-fitted and passengers will be safe.
-Have front seats mounted to the cage, and not to a 140l fuel tank like current.
- Lower seat height by around 4"
- New custom fuel tank with hopefully 80l capacity.(hopefully under seats, but if it doesnt fit anymore up under the rear).
- Keep cage height below the top of the windscreen height so it looks low when the windscreen is folded down/removed.
- Approved and mod plated for QLD

Most of the cage lines while be similar to this jeep one that Blue Torch Fabworks done.

Rear section will be wider then picture here as the jeep in the pics has been dove tailed.

Want to keep the cage height around this, or lower.

Will have some kinda custom roof rack similar to this but with dimple dies and some other brooksy ideas.

Not sure on tyre carrier style yet, maybe something like Brooksy done for my old 4runner with the rear stinger.

Considering this reversable one.
TireGate - PreRunner Series

Another option....though I dont think it'll look any good with my tyre sizes.

As per my reply on Outer, go the inboard tiregate design. Looks badass :)

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of it at all to begin with, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.....

Thanks for the picture! Did you notice a difference in the increase/decrease of body roll when you changed the mounting position of the shocks? I was thinking of mounting mine closer to the frame rails to give me a more solid stance.

Nah mate, didn't notice any difference. I think its more of a problem when you start lying them right over to 45 degrees etc. My shock angle would only be a few degrees off standard.

My suspension setup is a pretty soft setup to begin with cause of the custom longer leaves so the body roll is bad, but its easy enough to put up with it for its nice ride and offroad performance.

Roll Cage Started

Had a big weekend on the 40 down at Brooksys. Stoked with how much we got done in a couple of days. There is still some bracing and tube to be added, but the main cage shape is there.
