at what mileage did you replace starter?

I have a new to me 2001 LC with 219,000 miles.
As I make a list of what has and hasn't been done with regards to major part replacement I got to wondering about when folks had to replace their starter and did you have any warning before it went?

Did mine at 156k when I had the intake off to replace the SAI valves (which you don't have on a 2001). I had the intake and SAI pump out so it made sense to replace the stater while I was there.

In my experience they do give a warning before going out. I’d wait until then unless you’ve got another reason to be in there.

Just a heads up when doing a starter job, anticipate all the connectors in under the intake manifold to be brittle and break when pressing on them. You'll want the starter connector and knock sensor connectors at a minimum.

Five years ago, I had original starter (Denso) replaced on one of my 2000 LXs at 345k miles. I just had the starter replaced on my other 2000 LX, which was a TYC brand put on by previous owner with only 80k miles on that starter. I paid $78 to rebuild the Denso I took off the first LX to replace the TYC from the second LX.

This is such an anomaly, that we wish to submit you for the Mud lie detector test!!! Seriously, this is more unbelievable than having a functioning D light past 300k. I'm on my 4th starter at 451k, all OEM, or reman from the local toyota counter. I can swap it in my sleep!

I replaced my original starting around 300K miles and my D light still works at 410k miles as of last week. I daily drive my 100. Maybe there are a few unicorns...
