ASFIR Skid plates and front bumper

For those who have purchased these and do some decently gnarly wheeling- is the material here going to be adequate to protect the underside from damage over rocks or is steel still the way to go?
I bumped the front skid pretty good going up lower engineer and it only received a couple of scratches.

How would you feel about dropping the truck's weight on to a rock at the belly skid?
I have dropped the truck on it, bashed it on rocks, and dragged the truck on it while pulling with a winch and it just shrugs it all off. I am sure steel is stronger but this is plenty enough for me and aluminium is more rust resistant too.

This holds some weight coming from you. I know you use your truck pretty well, thanks for the input.

Question for anybody that might have installed the new version of the ASFIR front skid plate (the one that works with the UZJ)

I installed what they call the "gear skid plate" about a year ago. It is a Diesel-specific design, so I had to tweak it a little bit in order for it to fit properly on my 2003 US Spec UZJ100. Nothing major. But I now have a gap between the front OEM skid plate and the ASFIR gear skid plate that exposes the front diff.

Does the new ASFIR front skid plate go over the front diff covering this gap?

Thanks.

Asfir sells three skids that fit together for full coverage. At this point, you'll probably want to wait for the soon to be released petrol version of the diff skid, to bridge that gap.

Still waiting on @knewstance to reply - He has all of the prototypes right now.

The current -diesel- front skid plate is a perfect fit for my US petrol LC and reaches back to overlap where the current middle skid plate begins. I can't imagine them changing anything to make it better for a petrol truck. (perhaps providing a 20mm longer center bolt and more substantial collar to surround it - but no change to the plate)

I have both the front and middle diesel plates and had just, literally, changed to go out and remount my middle skid bracket after dropping my transmission pan Sunday.

If you are thinking about a front plate you might as well order one now and you will have it that much sooner ~and perhaps beat what could be a rush once the 2UZ-FE versions of the others hit the market.

As of right now, all three plates overlap, providing full coverage from the front skid all the way to the end of the transfer skid.

The middle gear skid has a pretty long span without support (from the diff support back to the trans support), so the current design includes a thick gauge steel bracket basically connecting each side of the frame in the middle of this long span. I imagine this is the reasoning that they had in mind with the addition of the bracket.

I'm not sure if these photos are mine to share, but just to give you an idea of what the coverage looks like. Keep in mind, these are prototypes and they are not fully installed in this photo. I'll post better photos when everything is completed.

Looks pretty good in that one picture. If they price them aggressively (as before) and don't have stupid wait time /out of stock issues like a lot of other small vendors seems to suffer with, I am definitely planning to buy the two rears to go with my front.

I've contacted ASIR and Leonard said the front skid plate is un-changed as it has always worked with the Diesel and Petrol versions.

Can you confirm this front skid plate is long enough so that it covers the front differential?

Maybe I just need to move the transfer skid plate forward? 9I tried to line the holes on the skid plate with the captive nuts on the provided cross brace, maybe I just have to drill some hole towards the rear of the plate)

Thanks for the photos. I now see that I just need to move the transmission skid plate forward, so that it covers the front diff. Currently, as it sits, it protrudes to the back of the transmission crossmember and even covers a little of the transfer case (see on the pics I posted above) I just tried to align the holes that where already drilled on the plate with the captive nuts on the provided skid plate cross member, but I guess I need to just drill new holes.

Front skid reaches the end of the diff cross member.
