Are you going to buy a LX700h OT?

I am all for boooing LR 😅 but I never said they invented. I said they made it popular - probably more so in the offroad community.

True, but I think if you compare with the 5th gen years previous to the Prado, you will conclude that the Prado is eating a lot of the 4R market/buyers. All of these Prado sales were 4R before, no? (guessing). I do not really grasp Toyota's goal with the Prado. I know the 200 did not sell any meaningful numbers, but they could have just brought the 300, forgot the Prado in the US and kept selling as much 4Runners as before. I am sure they know better than me though.

2024 would have been the last year of the 5th gen 4Runner and they sold ~100k units per the figures above.

In 2022 and 2023 they were selling ~120k units of the 5th gen each year (based on quick Googling).

In 2025 they sold ~140,000 units of the 4Runner + 250. So they are coming out ahead with the current strategy. We'll need to see if those numbers hold up.

And I guess you would need to go back to 2021 and earlier before the 250 was available to get a true sense of the 4Runner "sans Prado" market. But things have changed enormously since then.

There is tons of demand for the 300 internationally. They have no reason to bring it to the NA market where the full-sized LC wagon has always sold poorly.

I just wish we could get back to a solid axle, no frills landcruiser built for the apocalypse.

🍿 😂

We'd all love to be able to buy a non-Lexus 300 but Toyota is making money hand over fist with the current North American strategy and the 300 is still backordered internationally because there is such high demand.

Nah, AHC is way too cool/useful not to have.

Even on articulation alone it beats out the GX's ekdss - I think it's the same system in the 300GR sport? - and is pretty much the same as the Prado with sway bars disconnected...in normal height. (26:00 for results)

(Loses to the 200 though...)

Oh, don’t start with that. Lol. I think that’s what puts us in this predicament in the first place. I have been around here for almost ten years now and never saw people clamoring for a Prado. What I saw was exactly this - give us a bare bones LC - and my understanding was always that enthusiasts were asking for a more bare bones base model of the 200/300, which are all readily available overseas. Toyota hears this and thinks, oh great let’s make more money and give them the Prado and while we are at it let’s just say it’s the new Land Cruiser, since we are axing the 200 anyway. Noooo Toyota that was NOT it! 😅

Yeah, totally sarcastic in my comment.

I've spent plenty of time behind the wheel and riding in an 80 series. It's needed in Africa, nothing else lasts or is so easy to service. But they are not pleasant. Rough riding, noisy, slow. 0-60 in about 20 seconds. Top speed maybe 80mph downhill with a tailwind.

The Togolese president rides in an LX700, as does the Kenyan president. And they also handle the African roads with aplomb. And can also do all the things we love, in comfort.

Lol, The Lexus LX 700h is one of the farthest things from a barebones Land Cruiser to have ever existed. Besides, Toyota was pretty clear which Toyota Land Cruiser they were bringing over. Good move imo. 🍻

AHC keeps getting better and better for sure.

I am a nameplate whore though and I want my LC badge.

My overtrail compared to the LX570:

- plastic rotary dials instead of the brushed aluminium in the 570
- plastic center console instead of wood trim in the 570
- open pore wood instead of the lacquered burl in the 570
- pleather steering wheel instead of the wood in the 570
- padded touch surfaces like the upper and lower dash and center console sides seem to be pleather instead of real leather. I don't really remember what it was in the 570, but it's what I expect from a IS or ES level car, not the flagship

If we're talking about longevity and robustness, then by 3k miles I already have rubbing marks on the back seat from when I folded them and put some furniture on top, and the cargo shelf for the 3 row has always been creaky and wobbly.

Definitely a step down in terms of quality and luxury, just not stooping to the Germans' level. There's a reason why Lexus advertised takumi craftsmanship for the 570, and didn't for the 600/700.

Edit: forgot to mention stuff like hood flutter, and the single layer moonroof instead of acoustic glass, and I think overall gaps and tolerances are worse than the 570 (or the gx460 for that matter). Yes, I am nitpicking and yes, the complete package makes the 600/70/ worth it, but if you want to talk luxury you better look at the details.
It may not be saying much (or maybe it says everything) but I found the LX to be the only new Lexus model that actually felt like it was worthy of the badge. The new GX, NX, IS, TX etc all feel like large departures in luxury compared to their previous iterations and when compared to their top trim Toyota badged cousins I actually found myself preferring the Toyota models (LC250, Camry, Highlander.) I haven’t been a top trim RAV4 so I cannot comment on how it stacks up to the NX.

On this presser from 2021 it states the LX has a mix of metallic (presumably aluminum) and leather. Is the 700OT spec’d slightly different compared to a 600 on switchgear and interior trimmings?

No, I agree with you completely. The TX was especially bad, and the GX was very disappointing. I was expecting the level I saw in the LX to be in the GX, and the level of the previous LX (or 200 series) to be in the LX.

Regarding the link, they sometimes call synthetic nuluxe "leather" as well, especially in less technical documents. The only semi-aniline leather (which is definitely real leather) they specifically call out is the earth/black seat trim, which is used on the center panels of the seats. The side bolsters are black and I suspect they might be nuluxe - it was where the abrasion under load caused markings. Real leather is very abrasion resistant so I wouldn't expect it to behave like that if it was actual leather. Or it could use be the coating, not sure.

I'm very, very cautious about leather terminology in cars these days.

As for metal, I think the vent trim and a couple more pieces here and there are metal, but the 570 had these really nice radially brushed aluminium dials which made it seem very crafted and let you know you were in the flagship. Most of the metal looking trim in the 700 cabin could easily be confused for silver painted plastic, even if they were real metal. Pretty solid, but doesn't have the finish and craftsmanship of a flagship.

Just to defend the LX7 OT. While the 300 GRS is very "cool" I would never buy it vs the LX. I would take ACH every day vs a rear sway bar + KDSS. I also very much enjoy the "luxury" aspect of the LX. I own a 25 X7 m60i fully loaded, it is a million times better as a "dynamic" driver but the LX drives much smoother and "luxurious". The LX is has a nicer interior with better materials and infinitely better ergonomics (buttons and simple menus).

Well in the spirit of the thread, I’m very interested in one but I can’t say when. I’ve been trying to find a reasonably priced Carrera GTS and that is proving to be a fools errand lol.

That's what internet forums are for.
It happens with every topic.
Jordan vs. Lebron.
0W-20 vs 5W-30.
Cayman vs. 911.

Pick your topic.
I’ll bite.

I grew up in the 90’s so it’s Jordan but I’m not so stubborn to say LeBron isn’t up there. Much like Land Cruisers the game of basketball has changed A LOT over the last 30 years.

I don’t care about motor oil. (I’m old but not that old 😂)

The 911 has the prestige and is synonymous with the brand. Problem is Porsche engineers actually f’ed around and built a better “pure” sports car when they made the Cayman. To draw some parallels here one could make a case Toyota did the same when they made the LX for the North American market.

I agree with you on all of it...haha

The only thing I'll say to that is that Jordan made you quit. When he saw something that was missing, he built the team and stayed true to the fans.

LeBron, while good, left at every opportunity to what he perceived to be greener grass on the other side. Plus I don't like how embellishing fouls is a normal thing now, but that's a personal thing.

For the LX, you either understand what it is and what it can do, or you don't. I personally, like the exclusivity. It was so difficult finding a black F-Sport 570, being that the 570 is already so rare I settled on the LX.

This. Thanks for the down-to-earth facts as opposed to YouTube hype with V35As exploding left and right plus salivating for clicks and waiting for the next recall for the 2025 and up hybrids (where is it?).

Right on cue

Same problem, moved up recall period from April 2024 to August 2024. This is significant because the fix for the first recall was issued in May 2024, so this is the first time Toyota officially and clearly stated their fix for the first recall didn't work.

At this rate, they might as well disclose a new engine comes with these vehicles on the Monroney label

Sure, when it's half off MSRP.

Let me get my search alerts going and also create a draft For Sale 2018 LX 570 page.
x2 ..... other wise might take 2021 lx570 in nori green and caramel leather......
