Are you going to buy a LX700h OT?

Sigh. It feels like this subject is brought up daily. I mean, it’s quite ridiculous to me to see people comparing the LX700h to a X7/GLS or anything unibody. Totally different approach to what those manufacturers are making and there are more and more unibody SUV’s because most buyers don’t need a luxury vehicle with off-road capabilities that the LX provides. Most buyers of premium SUV’s just want it to promote their status in the world in the Starbucks line.

As with the complaints about why it’s not more luxurious in the LX, I don’t get it. It feels plenty nice for an $120k vehicle in 2026. Are we talking about more gizmos and electronics that will undoubtedly fail? Because that’s not what Toyota and Lexus has in mind for their flagship LC/LX vehicles ever since they were made. They’re developed to be long lasting and have as little issues as possible so you’re not stuck when traversing across miles of unpaved roads, exploring the world.

I’ve had over 50 vehicles and every generation of the Land Cruiser besides the 40 and absolutely love this new LX700h. To me, it’s worth the price as $120k isn’t much of an inflation gap from what my 99 was new ($51k back then) or my 2013 ($78k) was. The great thing is I don’t even have to really mod this one compared to what I had to do to the LC200 to actually off-road!

And if they do come out with a V8 twin turbo variant, I’ll put my money where my mouth is and trade in the TRX to have two LX’s in the household. Toyota is in the business of making money and to me, we’re lucky to even have this vehicle stateside. I’m doing my darndest to keep buying them so they can see there’s a market for real Land Cruiser 300 variants and not just for the new fake LC’s that are selling.

Totally agree. I and the crew here in ih8mud are the niche customers the lx700h is designed for. We want reasonable luxury, reliability, and tippy top off road capability. And then we go use it, banging around farms and woods and rutted out tracks, exploring, adventuring, all while enjoying a quiet and comfortable ride.

My overtrail compared to the LX570:

- plastic rotary dials instead of the brushed aluminium in the 570
- plastic center console instead of wood trim in the 570
- open pore wood instead of the lacquered burl in the 570
- pleather steering wheel instead of the wood in the 570
- padded touch surfaces like the upper and lower dash and center console sides seem to be pleather instead of real leather. I don't really remember what it was in the 570, but it's what I expect from a IS or ES level car, not the flagship

If we're talking about longevity and robustness, then by 3k miles I already have rubbing marks on the back seat from when I folded them and put some furniture on top, and the cargo shelf for the 3 row has always been creaky and wobbly.

Definitely a step down in terms of quality and luxury, just not stooping to the Germans' level. There's a reason why Lexus advertised takumi craftsmanship for the 570, and didn't for the 600/700.

Edit: forgot to mention stuff like hood flutter, and the single layer moonroof instead of acoustic glass, and I think overall gaps and tolerances are worse than the 570 (or the gx460 for that matter). Yes, I am nitpicking and yes, the complete package makes the 600/70/ worth it, but if you want to talk luxury you better look at the details.

I don't get the hatred towards the LC250. I get it..the name bugs people.
But they are offering a lesser car for way less money. It's not "fake".
If it offered the same engine as the GX, I would have considered it but a 4 banger was a non-starter.

Because they took away the ability to buy a 300 (non Lexus), and gave us a vehicle with the same name, with hollow sounding doors, a paper thin frame, and a 4 banger that sounds like a rattling can. It’s not badge insecurity lol. It’s the fact that we don’t get the option for a 300 GR here, which fixes many of the issues with the 600/700.

Don't mind this guy. He has this bot/troll-behavior and uses AI to vomit a bunch of nonsense. He is the exact demographic Toyota aimed when whoring the Land Cruiser name in the US - 5th gen 4Runner owners that "upgraded" to the Prado. That and the soccer moms that wanted a Defender-like square new kid hauler and thought the 200 was "too bulky". Nothing wrong with that and none of us are against the Prado.

What we all took issue with was whoring the name in the US and pretty much calling all LC enthusiasts in the US idiots. This name issue BTW has been beaten to death in the 200 forum, and it is now pretty obvious that the marketing team at Toyota USA won the battle against the engineers, reason why the Prado250 was announced as the "new Land Cruiser" here.

Anyway, back to the LX700H, yes (like it or not) it is the only successor to the 200 in the US. I was pissed in the beginning, but when they launched the OT, I accepted we were not getting a GR sport LC and bought one. Not one bit of regret and after owning it for the past 6 months, I can honestly say, though I would still probably trade it in for a GR Sport, I would have a hard time doing so. The AHC alone is such a smart system that it kinda sways me back to the LXOT, because of the dual personality - great on road in a highway and awesome in the trail off-roading. We gotta hand it to LR that made this system popular. They just botched by using air and Lexus/Toyota perfected using the hydraulics.

We'd all love to be able to buy a non-Lexus 300 but Toyota is making money hand over fist with the current North American strategy and the 300 is still backordered internationally because there is such high demand.

True, but I think if you compare with the 5th gen years previous to the Prado, you will conclude that the Prado is eating a lot of the 4R market/buyers. All of these Prado sales were 4R before, no? (guessing). I do not really grasp Toyota's goal with the Prado. A lot of people wanted the Land Cruiser Prado. The sales show it. The GX and the 4R were the closest thing to the Prado we could ever get. It’s kinda now similar to you guys being frustrated that you have to buy a Lexus LX because the LC 300 isn’t available here.
