Are you going to buy a LX700h OT?

I'm not in the market for a $120k+ SUV, but if I was, I wouldn't really even consider an LX700h OT.

I've sat in the new LX. It feels cramped for how big it is (especially in the back seat) and the load floor in the back is ridiculously high with the giant battery. The vehicle really doesn't have any "WOW" factor in my opinion. Not enough luxury, dated tech (compared to something like an X7 or similar), and I'd much rather spend less on a new GX and do something else with the $30k+.

Replacing my 2013 LX with a raptor….. still keeping the 100 series around.

Edit: I tried a raptor- just too much. Denali 1500 is the sweet spot.

It seems like the only viable replacement for the 200 series that is LC based.
Not until they put a new motor in it. The V35A will forever be tarnished in my book. I’m curious why Toyota further delayed the 2nd V35A recall remedy for a few more months.

Also, the lack of ability to slide the 2nd row seats back is a huge fail, as it’s even more cramped in the 2nd row. Along with what others have mentioned that the interior is way more cramped and there’s no room to spread your legs out while driving.

There’s not many benefits to the 300 series when compared to the 200. The 200 is just better in so many ways, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to boot (comparatively).

If you only want something new, the Armada Pro4X is the better option right now. We finally get an actual patrol in the States, while Toyota took away the 300.

I think the 700OT is awesome and would happily buy one but not for $120k. If they are trading for $80k’ish in a few years then sure but I’ll probably still be driving my 200 at that point.

I don’t think the engine issues apply to the hybrid platform so no concerns there. And I think that the interior is quite nice especially in comparison to the 600 which feels like a big downgrade from the 570.

It objectively has a ton of features that the 200 doesn’t so I don’t think it’s fair to say that the 200 is just a better vehicle full stop. And the 5.7 V8 has its own known issues to contend with and isn’t a perfect platform.

Maybe. My 200, which I bought new, is now 10 years old. I will daily it for maybe another 5 years so I have been thinking about the replacement (I always buy new). It was my plan to buy a 700OT but I can't get over all that lost load space with the battery. Strongly considering the Armada Pro-4X and the Ford Expedition Tremor. Several friends have had good luck with the latest Expedition and Navigator even with putting 40-50k miles a year on them. I also like the tailgate on the Expedition.

As the 'true successor to the 200,' it is and it has the same heft as the 200. While the GX is hand-down a better value, it failed to give me the same 'feel' as my 200. Even after 7000miles. This is the intangible X factor that you experience behind the wheel of a vehicle. The LX, for me, absolutely has it. Has that special feel just like my 200, just like my 100, and even the 80.

Concerns about cargo space, while warranted, I feel are overblown. Yes I wish the 2nd row would slide, and hands down yes I wish it had a tail gate. But after removing the 3rd row and putting my drawers in, I've no issues with weeklong trips with the family and two full sized dogs.

Regarding Price:
Inflation is a bitch. But let's take a step back and look at some boy math.
  • 2018 Land Cruiser MSRP ~$85,000 --> adjusted for inflation is $113,000 today.
  • 2026 LX is around $120k give or take.
Now, if you wanted to match the LX7's capability, you would need:
  • Lift (BP51 +upper control arms): $4,475
  • Lockers (Front and Rear, ARB Air+Compressor): $3,550
  • Labor: $6,000 (just a swag, probably low)
  • Estimated Adder: $14,025.
Comparison:
  • 200 series w/lift and lockers: $127,025
  • LX700 suddenly looks like a 'better value'. Boy math.

Now of course many of us here bought our 200s used, but there are quite a few folks that bought their 200s new and immediately shipped them to Slee to build out.

EDIT: Grammar.

The issues apply but..
Indeed, Toyota still isn’t including hybrid models that feature the same V6 in these widespread campaigns. That’s supposedly because they have the electric drive system to help them off the road in case of a failure. These are voluntary safety recalls, and up to this point, the NHTSA has not required Toyota to add the electrified trucks.

I wasn't here for the 100 to 200 series transition. I bet a lot of people have risk aversion to anything new. They also downplay issues with what they own and overblow faults with the new thing. It's just human nature.
I am gonna go drive a 700 and see what I think. Now that I've had the 570 for a few months..

This. Thanks for the down-to-earth facts as opposed to YouTube hype with V35As exploding left and right plus salivating for clicks and waiting for the next recall for the 2025 and up hybrids (where is it?). I like the comparison to bring a 200 to the same capabilities of a 300OT - it might get close, but as much as we love aftermarket, it will never be as good as the OEM out of the box stuff in terms of quality.

Adding up:

1 - Don't like the high load floor with the 3row? Little secret - you can order a 2row (and get a credit for it), with almost as much space in the boot as a 200 - I said almost, do not throw rocks yet. I have said here many times, IMO the LX, in hybrid form, is NOT a 3-row truck. Full stop. That said, some folks here make it work.

2 - Armada - Sure, if you can stomach the bloated fugly looks (subjective, I know) plus that good old Nissan depreciation hit and do not need 3 lockers, same capabilities, etc.

3 - The (huge) step up in terms of comfort and tech you will only feel once you have taken the OT in a couple road trips and live with it in bumper-to-bumper traffic and compare to your old 200.

4 - Is it expensive? Sure, it is. So, was the 200 when brand new. Can you save and buy a Prado GX? Sure, if you want the Prado experience, not the LC experience.

5 - Finally, do not even get me started with these folks paying $150k for 5/6 year old pre-owned 200HEs at BAT.

I bought one and I wouldn't buy one again until they fix the engine issues. Wouldn't buy any other car either though, nothing comes close...not even the 200 series.

Might buy my wife one to get her out of my 200 HE. I like the 200HE, but the LX600 felt lighter to drive around town, but never felt as solid. The 300 is hundreds of pounds lighter than the 200 and it feels it in both good and bad ways. My gripe with the LX600 was always the throttle response of the engine, transmission, and the ride of our non-AHC LX. I think the LX700H would mitigate my perceptions of the throttle response, will drive one and find out. I think it is unfortunate that GM can work it the fuel economy standards to still offer SUVs with V8s and Lexus cannot find a way to shove a 2UR-GSE under the hood of a LX. I could give a flip about the machining issues.

4.0L twin turbo V8 incoming. No doubt the LX eventually gets it (and a price hike).

GX and LX sharing the same motor is nuts given the price delta between them.

I've been quietly hoping that engine will make its way into the LX.

IT SOUNDS SO GOOD.

I may have to make a trade in the near future.

EDIT: for the uninitiated

200>300 getting rid of the tailgate was and is blasphemous. If the Lexus version of the 300 had a tailgate I'd probably have gone with that but because it's basically an oversized LC Prado why not save some cash and get a new GX550 or a *core* LC250 instead or just keep your 200 and take care of it to the grave.

Oversized Prado is a stretch.

And no same platform =/= same frame.

To me, the split tailgate was the clearest line between the LC Prado and the flagship Land Cruiser wagon. Now it's just another basic liftgate and to add insult to injury the glass doesn’t even open?!

I am somewhat worried that Toyota will give that engine to some GR F-sport version instead of an off-road oriented trim.

It does sound great, but the hybrid is better for crawling anyway I guess?

If it's coming, probably wont be in a few years. After GR GT has been released for a couple of years. It'll be interesting for sure.

Honestly if nissan can put the gtr engine into the patrol Toyota can put the LFA engine in the LX.

A man can dream...
