Are soft-tops compatible with ambulance doors?

Since the '75 and up have ambulance style rear doors, how does one use the soft tops available...such as kayline stc, supertop and etc?

You have to get either a bolt in tailgate panel (~$50), dropdown tailgate (aftermarket - unluss you have mucho $$), or retrofit earlier-style barn doors.

Mine is similar to the one in tuckers lower pic but without the bends. The mounting plates line up with the existing lower door hinge holes. The edges of the steel have been rolled and the inside lined to match the rest of the interior. Once mounted, the snaps for the soft top were lined up and set into place. It takes some effort to get them snapped as is tight. All of this work was done by the PO. The steel is heavy enough that it doesn't flop around with only the two point of attachment.

When you take the hard top off, the top part of the amby doors has no where to bolt too. So you have to switch to what they previous posts show.

You can also run an OEM top (Repo made by Ehsan in Pakistan) and run his two-piece ambi doors which are hard on bottom and soft on top...very sweet...very expensive!

My rear Tailgate was made out of barn doors cut in half then welded together, Unfornately I cant take the credit for this as I bought them off a fellow Aussie who owns a neat forty.

Talk about tailgate, did any one pick up that OEM tailgate that Tony (TLCA president) was selling at the PMC swap meet for 150 bucks completed with all hinges/handles?

I have a "tailgate" of sorts that just bolts to the bottom hinges when I take my top off. It's just a piece of aluminum with a stiffener along the top and bottom edges. Almost the same as the light colored one above except the hinge stays on the body. It's not as functional as the fancy aftermarket ones, but with wing nuts on the R hinge bolt (inside) it's more functional and better looking than that black job above.(IMO) A painted piece a of plywood served me well prior to that. Of course if you have the $$$.......
