Nolen - if I go deplete Van's of their inventory of tannerite and drag this piece of **** to Canton, can we put a few rounds of that five five six millimeter into the side and see how high it will launch? I ain't fixin this MF no mo:

God how I love Mud....

I've gotten better at appliance repair over the past two years, and that's not good...

Replaced a transmission in a top-loader last year. That was fun (not...) Then, it quit while I was out if town for work, and it was all I could do to keep my wife from dragging it out if the house and curb-stomping it Philly style. Luckily, after several missed attempts at troubleshooting, I finally found it to be a bad connection at the motor harness. Bent the prongs up a little on the male connection so it would connect with the female plug in a different spot (Giggity), and now we all good for another 6 months.

Kitchenaid is garbage.

Frigidaire is also garbage; especially their "Professional" Series. Ask me how I know.

P.S. Viking ranges are also overpriced garbage.

All of these pieces of **** are the same rebranded garbage. Buy cheap and blow them the F up when they fail.
MOSES.webp

Next dishwasher I get with be a Maytag or Whirlpool. Tried and tested.

Next stove/oven will be a Wolf. Prices be dammed. I spent $2k on my current POS Frigidaire oven, and for a grand or 2 more, I could have just bought the Wolf.

The Whirlpool in our kitchen is from before we moved in and remodeled. I'd say it's 12. Its due and will be replaced with same.

I did JT level research on high end appliances when we did the kitchen. We went with top end GE Monogram stove vent and fridge. 8 years and no complaints. 2/3 the price of comparable Viking. And I really wanted Viking for the bling factor.

The cheapest 24" Monogram is $1500. If I thought this would last as long as the one my mom had in our house growing up, I'd gladly pay it. Being justifiably skeptical, though, I'm aiming for a price point around a third of that...actually I found some for less than that, but none of them received aesthetic approval.

I've got probably the same or very similar model Kitchenaid DW. That thing is a piece. One of the door pulley/spring mechanisms broke, which I replaced. Later, the heating element went out so it doesn't dry the dishes. I'm not fixing that as it also requires replacing some control panel. Now the door is f'ed up again...

I used to think that Kitchenaid was a decent appliance manufacturer. Maybe they were at one time, but 3 out of 4 of my Kitchenaid appliances have issues.

My microwave is also falling apart. The door handle is pulling away from the front panel. I see no way to access the screws. It doesn't matter anyway as the handle just randomly started cracking and falling apart. The exhaust vent panel is completely missing because all of the plastic tabs that hold the mounting clips have broken off and there is no way to attach it.

The smooth-top convection range also has a few gremlins. The "off" button quit working, so to turn the oven off, you have to set the cook time to 1 minute and wait for it to turn itself off. One of the burners has taken a dump and shuts off as soon as it gets hot.

I'm not going to even try to fix any of these, they just aren't worth it.

Yes, I have heard the same things about KA too.

Let me tell you about The Frigidaire Professional line I bought.

Gas Range/Oven:
Control Panel melted from hot cooktop.
Only 3 of my 5 igniters still work.
The griddle burner doesn't get nearly hot enough to do jack s*** and also clogs.
The damn inside actually caught on fire! I had to quickly take the thing apart (the oven) while it was smouldering, to get to the hard to reach areas that were on fire. There is a major design flaw that allows grease/oil to get past the burner (as it is ignited) and flow into the blanket that surrounds the oven box.

Fridge:
Freezing issues in the crisper drawers. Inlet is too close to the boxes.
Ice machine cracked itself in half.
Water lines busted.
Ice forms in the freezer and does not allow door to close all the way. Must be broken with a hammer and removed every 2 months or so.
Water lines to ice machine then froze and cracked.
Expensive ass water filters.

Dishwasher:
Poorly designed, which is the cause of the detergent door being too low. This hits your plates, and will not open, meaning you often have to wash the entire load again, as the detergent was never dispensed.

At least $5k was spent on these 3 pieces of crap.

I've replaced the door pulley/spring mechanism twice.

I've replaced the main control panel.

I've replaced the thermal fuse.

I've replaced both the upper and lower rack assemblies.

The front door panel is literally falling off. I've used all sorts of super duper adhesives to try to glue it back together, and the last time I worked on it I tried to go back with some self tapping screws. I knew it was just about done; we've been on borrowed time since the last fuse replacement. Apparently the panel was dangling recently and too much force was used to fully open the door. At this point the door and or frame is tweaked such that the door won't even close any longer...not even with the persuasion of my 4' pry bar.

At present it is stoically awaiting its incendiary demise.

I say all busted apliances are brought to the crawfish boil and we see which one will burn the longest.

I'm putting mine on the train tracks behind my house.

Glad to know I'm not the only person snake-bitten on appliances. We went with Samsung front loader for washer/dryer. Both suck and no one services "them foreign thangs."

Bosch throughout the kitchen and I could write a book about everything that doesn't work. Just riding it out before I go blow it all up at Nolen's and buy new crap...rinse, repeat, etc...

@pmccraney Ive become fairly fluent in Samsung front loaders. My dryer I've never had a problem with but the washer on the other hand is on its second drain pump and third Silvercare module.

Truthfully, this dishwasher is the least problematic of the Bosch gang, although it does not have "dry" function (on purpose). Don't know if that is some environmentally friendly feature or what, but it wasn't advertised and it sort of sucks having to hand dry all of your stuff when you paid good money for a machine to do it for you. Second, it insists on beeping incessantly when it is finished (half-way) performing its job. So, if you run the dishes right before bed, someone ends up having to crawl out of bed to open the door to make the damn thing quit beeping (can't program that to silent). If you don't mind hand drying dishes so that they are both in fact clean (and also appear clean), and if you like an appliance that wakes you up in the middle of the night like a crying infant, it's a peach of a product.

The fridge/freezer combo and the range oven are pretty much lemons.

Rob, good to know you are proficient on other "foreign thangs" I own besides Toyotas :)
