Anyone run a 285/70/18?

I've searched.

This is kind of an odd ball size. It's very similar to a 305/65/18. Like 33.6 and 33.7 but it's skinnier.

Local has some mud terrains in this size. Wondering if I should bite.

I've researched them and think it is a great size option for these trucks but very limited options for big name brand manufacturers-and they are very expensive when compared to other sizes in that same area.

This would be on stock suspension. I have seen a few posts here and there. Maybe minor rubbing.

Price isn't an issue. Just fitment on stock LX

Stock height, I'm almost 100% you are going to rub unless it never leaves the pavement and you adjust the steering stops on your lca's.

Specs from both Nitto and Toyo in their offerings give it 34" diameter unloaded.

It would go off road every now and then. Mostly pavement. Not going to lie, it's mostly for looks. I suppose I could get ahc override just to be safe.

I am only considering these because of good price and local. They are BFG KM2

With the ahc override you should be good

There's a few guys that are running 295 70 r18 cooper stt pros, with out much of an issue.seems they run a bit small so I could imagine they compare to 285 70s. And that's stock height. Could do AHC lift without the override too if you're worried. I'd say bite for sure.

Giving new life to an old thread . It's an obscure size 285 70 18 but am wondering if people are running these and feel the need to regear in the 5 speed? Do you need to trim the pinch weld in this size? Any ruibbng of the fender while turning at full compression? Am considering Nitto Ridge Grapplers . Yes I will wheel it hard, I have a chunk missing from the sidewall of the current Mickey Thomson's ATZ P³ from Sierra rocks. Was thinking if I'm going to replace them, why not go a little bigger for clearance. But if it's too much trouble, I'll stick with the 33s. My spare is on the rear bumper anyway, so it's ok if it doesn't fit under the vehicle.

295/65/18 is another oddball size that I wish was more common, 33.1 x 11.8". Currently, only the Duratrac is offered in that size.

Idk about the STT Pro running small. I had the 295/70r18 and it towered over all my buddies and their 33×12.5. I believe the spec sheet states 34.7", its every bit of that.

I personally think the 285/70 would be a hidden gem size for us 100 series guys. But do believe the Ridge Grappler version at 34" might rub a tad on a stock height cruiser.

Check out the guys who are running a 285/75r17 and go from there. Seems to be a common size for Rock Warrior wheels. Would be a good way to get a baseline idea on what a 285/70r18 height would be like.

That is different the 295 65s, but still a 33 .I have 275 70 18, already a 33". Looking for a bit more clearance off road. The Ridge Grappler is 34" x 11.5" in the 285 70 18. People have said that they think it would be ok, but I haven't read anywhere that it actually does without running fenders, pinch weld (which I could live with), etc. I've read you have 35s, you should regear, but this is between. Hoping for a jack of all trades master of none I guess.

lift has no impact on tire clearance what so ever. Full bump, full droop, full lock.. they are all the same pre lift as they are post lift.

Mongoose, it looks great. I have the Ironman lift, so about the same as what you have. Do they rub at all in the front or rear? Did you regear? Spacers? I don't want to run a body lift because it won't be able to fit in my garage.

I have 1 or 1.25" spacers. I'm not positive as they came along with the wheels. No rubbing that I have been able to notice yet but I've only had them on for a week. I try not to turn to the stops anyway. Was supposed to check out compression over the weekend but didn't make it to the trails.

5 speed tansmission, I have not regeared nor do I think I will. When I bought the truck it had some slightly larger than stock tires (I think 285/65/18?) and the difference with the 34s has seemed negligible. Mileage sucks, but what's new?

Edit: I have also flattened the pinch weld and protruding portion of the fender liner.

Then why don't you or anyone else run a 285/70r18, 295/70r18, 285/75r18, 285/75r17 on a non lifted truck at stock ride height without physically cutting the fenders??????

Because you can't. Change my mind.

Lifting a 100 series does not change any suspension geometry. A tire that clears at full bump, full droop, and full lock will clear regardless of the shock length or torsion bar spring rate. The lifts on the 100’s do not change kinematics at all... your axle paths are identical to a non lifted rig. I’m saying they’ll rub either way, lifted or not, that’s why no one runs those tire sizes unless they are doing body lifts or they just accept the rubbing (which is fine for most of us).

I’m actually curious, got links where someone cut fenders on a 100? i’ve seen lots of 80’s but no 100’s with cut fenders

Check the videos thread. The guy with the white 100 with the large stinger is running 37s with cut fenders
