anybody heard of a "Hercules" winch from Lodi, CA? made from P38 starter?

this all started with the idea of running the 24v winch with a 12v system.

e would/could be the first to design a 24v setup for an late model 80 series. I was aware that there are 40's - 70's that have 24v systems.

Winch for sale locally, very cheap.
Only info I have is that it's labeled "Hercules" Manuf, Lodi, CA, or something like that. Supposedly made from a P38 starter motor.
Anybody knows about this thing or similar?

What year is it manufactured. I grew up in Lodi and I can see if any oldtimers know anyting about them or are they a new company getting started?

thanks, but don't worry about it, not so important. No idea how old this thing is, haven't seen it yet even.

The '64 40 I have had an airplane starter winch on it. I'll have to see if I can find a pic.

heard back from the guy. It is indeed a 24V he thinks, or at least it uses 2 batteries...

If it is really a starter motor from a P-38 it is likely a 28 volt motor.

Hercules Winches Lodi

I have your answer, 3 years later.
The Hercules Winches were made Jim Barnhardt.
He was quit a guy. Unfortunately he passed away the other day.
I haven't been close to the family for many year, but I do remember the winches were made of a aircraft starter motors.
His family still resides at their home outside Lodi, CA 95240.

Jim had two son's, John and Jerry, I'm sure they wouldn't mind talking about their dad's complishments in manufacturing.

military cucvs have a 24 volt starter and the rest is 12 volt .they use 2 12v alternaters so it shouldnt be to hard to do .

Millions of 24v 80 Landcruisers out there folks, I know this is country/region specific thing but the changeover relay (24v start 12v running) is not to expensive.

I know they were 24v in the scandinavian countries but also Germany and the UK, despite living in Spain I cannot find one that is NOT an import to check what they have here.

Yep, I have a Canadian market 24V 1987 HJ60 in my driveway, the entire electrical system is 24V, not just the start circuit. It's a NATO spec., not sure why some markets got the 24V electrics, but most diesel model Cruisers up here are 24V, including BJ70's and if I'm not mistaken the BJ40's.
