Any of you monkeys ever put a TDI in your 4 runner?

I’m strongly considering it. I’ve got a 2013 vW Jetta sport wagon as a doner vehicle. It’s got the common rail 2.0 CJAA engine at 101k miles.
It’s going into an ‘85 4 runner project I’m working on.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

There are some excellent threads on TDI swaps here on Mud... See @AirheadNut 's excellent work. Most are focused on the ALH engine, and some on the PD. With the newer models, the electricals get a lot more complicated, but if you're considering this swap, you already know what you'll be getting in to. I'll be swapping a 2003 ALH (auto) into a 1975 FJ55. Plans got delayed, but I'm stacking parts to make it happen.

You may also want to check out the various TDI Vdub forums. Lots of swap info to be found.

I use a BEW from a 2005 Jetta and I love it. I just got a 2006 Jetta with a CR that I am going to use for a different project. I got a lot of help from this forum and several people have done it before. I also used TDI swapped trucks on facebook but I dont really like facebook or its format so I only used it occasionally. TDI club is better at specific issues with TDI's but they wont know anything about putting it in a 4runner.

Its not any harder than any other engine swap that goes into a vehicle that it wasn't made for and everything about it has been done before.

Do it.

I don't think the cjaa has been successfully swapped and cruise control been retained. (Neither has a PD for that matter but seems an ed15p ECU might do the trick for the PD at least)

A cp3 conversion for reliability is something some would consider a mandatory upgrade before swapping.

If I'm not mistaken the cjaa doesn't have a belt driven power steering pump so you'll need to figure that out with a Prius or Volvo junkyard pump

The cjaa once deleted seems to be a much peppier than my BHW with a stage 2 tune. I'd be interested in how a cr170 (or other turbo upgrade) along with the stage 2. I'd imagine past 200 HP and nearly 400 ft lbs of torque isn't too hard to achieve.
