I can't find any really good write ups on the 62 split case. I haven't been able to find Georges, and not for lack of trying. It it definately different tho....like split cage needle rollers instead of bushings under the high/lo gears. Cool but I have no specs on them...so I just cleaned em back up and put em back in-they looked fine:meh:

youre a saint!

Here are a couple of quick shots in the early morning glare of the shifters. As I said, they end up just looking like stock shifters.

Excuse the dust--I was in Death Valley last week and have not had a chance to clean out the truck.

Thanks for posting those up. I was just curious because I hadn't seen any photos of the process/after math/location of the stick.

I like the idea of using the CB mount to cover hole left by the stock shifter.

That's a ham radio not a CB!

On the trans tunnel there are 3 captured nuts that Georg puts a plate over and bolts down. I pulled out his plate, made a similar plate out of 1/4 then welded up some 1/4 rod to make the mounting plate. It works well and does not transmit heat up from the tranny hump.

The hole in the carpet is about 4in x 5in.

Whoops. I've never had either, so I wasn't sure what I was looking at.

Very nice. I'm excited to get started on my swap.

Thanks for the info. So do you still have the H42 or did you get the h55f in?

In my blurry pictures you can just make out the 5 speed shifter pattern. So it has the H55f that used to be in my FJ60. I purchased it new from Toyota in about 2006, and it only has about 20k miles on it. It runs, drives and shifts like new. I did use an 87 transfer case, and did not use the vacuum shift case of the FJ62.

My old tranny and tcase became donor organs for another local Cruiserhead's FJ62, and gave it new life. Pretty cool. Georg did the swaps in both of our trucks over a couple of weeks in September. Both turned out great.

If you are considering this swap, there are a ton of small parts you need, including the pedal bucket, the bellhousing, hydraulics, shifters, clutch and flywheel. Georg does a nice job with these, so give him a call, he is likely to have the parts you need and didn't think about.

Yup. Just saw that a second ago and felt kind of dumb for asking.

I think that's what I'm the most excited about with this swap. I know I'll lose some Highway range, but the difference in the 3FE + the reliability issue is worth it.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I read through the entire thread on his build thread on your swap and the attention to detail was amazing. Hopefully I'll get to work with him in the future.

Sorry LAMBCRUSHER, I didn't mean to hijack the thread! Just following and learning as much as possible as this is going to be my swap next spring.

every bit helps:cheers:

got tcase in yesterday. Torqued and ready to check preload. prolly gunna yank down the early 60 series pedal bucket and marry its pedal support/carrier to the 62 series bucket, which has everything needed on it but the actual pedal pivot point mounting. The 62 master cylinder mounting ear has the correct bolt pattern for the later 60 master whereas the early on does not and would require getting an earlier master.

This is good to know, as I'm not even sure of the year the donor 60 I have (I don't own it, just storing it while I take off my parts) is. I will need to look.

ok. so here is the whole thing supported by the xmember. next is the pedal bucket deal. First is the early(top) next to the fj62 assembly. next is showing the difference in blot pattern. The early one is a centered and anticlockwise, where as the fj62 matches the late fj60 HOWEVER it does not have the pedal pivot saddle. fortunately, they match.

thanks for the kind words everybody.........i do appreciate it. it's what makes my job enjoyable. well, part of it anyways.

simon, looks like you're making good porgress. keep it up.

Needless to say, I could not have done any of this without you, Master Georg. I was able to turn up a bolt at apa that was only 3/16 short of bottoming thru the threaded hole in the transmission ear without any washers. But it'll do till I get the right one.

Heres a shot of the dash carnage...and the clutch master getting ready for its new home

I was able to get the right* clutch hard line from, again, a very good guy in Stockton, and aparently, the first 2 rubber busher brake(clutch)( hard line to body bushing DO HAVE a third hole(for said clutch)NiCE. Gunna hafta fab something to grab the clip side of the line.
