NOTE: the pedal bucket I had was from an earlier 60, and therefore has a different bolt pattern for the clutch master. I knew this about the bolt pattern, but got stoopid and drilled thru the firewall indents, which are for the later pedal bucket/ master. Long story short, When I get the master for an 86, I will check the bolt pattern first, then modify the pattern of the bucket to fit. Also noted: get all the hardware the first go round

I cannot find the rear main cap torque spec for the 3FE. Is it the same 85 ft./lbs. that the 2f calls for?

My old t case has more than .017" and less than .021" of thrust clearance on the idler gear before dis-assembly. I haven't spent alot of time looking, but a half hour of searching hasn't got me that spec. Any help there would be great! Thanks.

Yup. That's perfect.

and this time cause the 312,000 mile old tcase is cabbagean he rescued me with a next day tcase kit. Guess I'll hafta do it now. The transmission went in with just me and a floor jack(not recommended, but I'd do it again without a second thought if I had to.) sometimes being in the boonies is not a good thing-everything takes longer. yes a donor 60 would have been nice

I just found that thread and I think that's been the best visualization of what I'm planning on doing. This is kind of a minor question, but what did the interior of the 62 end up like with the H42 installed.

i'd use the flywheel bolts, the flex plate bolts are a hair shorter. make sure you put some sealant on the bolts since they screw into a "live passage".

trans crossmember is in. will post pics of the build later. Now I have to find a gear to replace my idler or maybe have the old gear bored and sleeved???

above shows a crappy shot of the a440 crossmember and some plates i cut. next is a better(very slightly)shot of the cuts i made in the crossmember. i then drilled out the spot welds and seperated the hat from the back of the crossmember and relieved it of the nice formed channel for use as gussets on my new crossmember mounting plates. below is the quazi mounted crossmember. i used angle to gusset the inside cause it didn't get in the way of the lines running down the passenger inside frame rail- and it was easy and out a sight still hafta re weld the modified exhaust bracket to my drivers side outside gusset-and paint I did not want to cut out any more of the a440 xmember cause I'm gunna use some of it(the inside mounting ears and whatnot) to mount a transfer skidplate of some type some day just to make use of the existing mounting tabs

the top of the outside gussets are open, so I under cut the ears and ran a drill thru the corner of the channels against the framerail in order to keep it open-after seeing what those cats in stockton build, angle on the veiw-able side was not going to be an option

i don't think i have any interrior pics of a completed swap into a 62. but i have done the swap a few times including for fellow mudders. DrDrew being one of them. maybe one of them could be kind enough to post a pic.

I'll work on a pic after work tomorrow. Imagine and FJ60 with a 5 speed. That's what it looks like. Georg did super nice work on my FJ62. The 5 speed has been awesome.

You are left with a hole in the carpet where the auto shifter was. I used the captured nuts in that hole to make a mount for my ham radio, so at this point you can't tell it ever had an automatic.

Just in general, the 5 speed changes the FJ62 completely. Changed from a frog to a prince overnight. It has plenty of power and lost that doggy feeling. Best thing you could do to an FJ62. I had a starting advantage, though. I already had the 5 speed that I had run for 4 years and 20k in my FJ60.

Additionally, I now run 33 x 10.5 x 15 tires and the speedo is right on the money and it isn't sluggish like it was with the auto and 31s.

Around town fuel mileage is much better as well.
