okay... steering with power now!!!

Question: what will cause the saginaw pump to bind at mid-steer and whine like a teenager getting a text with punctuation?

I followed the purging instructions, but it still binds when turning both directions about a third of the way from center. While parked with tires on the ground, I cannot get power assist to turn from lock to lock. While in the air, I can go lock to lock with no effort or binding or whining at all. When driving, I can turn the wheel with one finger as long as I am rolling. When it whines/ binds, the belt stops too.

Do I still have air in the line? Belt not tight enough?

It would seem that was the case. After further purging and a bit more tension on the belt, the whine is all but gone.

Now I just need to relearn how to drive it. HOLY COW!!!

If you haven't done power steering yet, you should consider it!!!

It's as easy to turn the wheel as my new subaru.

Now I just gotta finish with the shocks, and figure out why the carb is racing.

Still figuring out shock mounting. Got some ford towers. Just need to cycle the suspension for some new shocks and position the towers. I’ll likely be flipping the shock mounts on the axle housing to point backwards.

Pics of the pump and mounting. This is a Saginaw pump from a 1977 Chevy C10. It has a 5/8” pressure fitting. It is mounted using @orangefj45 s Saginaw pump adapter kit for later model 2Fs with the drivers side mounted power steering pump bolt holes in the block, with a modified OEM bracket for the same vintage of block (1979-1987). The kit comes with the adapter pieces, pulley, and belt. I also got his modified high pressure line. The return line is a return fitting for a 1995 Tacoma I got at autozone, with some fuel rated 3/8” hose and a pair of clamps.

Also shown is the JimC smog pump delete pulley. Well worth the money spent.

Here is the modified fj60 steering shaft - trimmed and welded to an fj55 column yoke. And my fj80 23mm right hand thread TRE to fj55 17mm left hand thread relay rod end (which is in its correct location on the passenger side of the truck) transition drag link to connect the fj80 pitman arm to the fj55 tie rod. Beck Arnley TREs from Rock Auto are actually 555 brand Japanese mfg.

Why did I think that you had a 3FE?

@PabloCruise
Because I was always hitting you up about the 3fe swap details!

It’s my favorite F family engine. Probably going to swap in a 3fe and A440 someday.
