Randy -
Planning on switching to a SVT Contour fan from Rock Auto on my 5.7 from the POS single electric fan and crapo sheet steel mount/"shroud" the professional shop originally installed. I already changed from the !@#$ mechanical controller with the bulb in the upper radiator hose to the Flex-A-Lite solid state controller with the thermocouple between the radiator fins.

What did you fab up to mount it? I've read about "brackets" but never saw a description. All the original mounts still appear to be there even though it has the Ron Davis Racing aluminum radiator.

BTW just read this entire thread (thank God for 4-day holidays!) for the 1st time (chimed in early & didn't come back until now). Makes me really appreciate what the "pro" shop did even though mine is 100% Chevy stock (for smog/maintainability reasons). But they didn't have the detail mentality you do even though the tech was a 40 owner. They also wouldn't listen to me when I said I wanted ramshorn headers so they had to redo that when they straightened out their brainiac catalytic convertor/O2 sensor screwup that kept me from getting smogged.

Take it from me: you're gonna love it! As someone said on about the 8th page of this thread, once you get over flogging it 'cause it's just FAST, you'll enjoy driving it sanely. Just turning on the key, hearing the fuel pump shut off, and just nicking the starter so it instantly catches is a treat. Your garage won't smell like raw gas & pollutants. It'll idle like a kitten. And I still like the 2F and the 4-speed: have one of those, too.

If you look at the pic's of the fan I place the fan on there cut the excess off the tabs and drill a hole though the tabs that will catch. Other than that it is real easy and doesn't take an hour to do. Once you set the fan on the radiator you will see exactly what I am talking about. And it holds no problem. And thanks for the comments. I know you love your V-8 and this will definately keep her cool.

BooHoo - can't use my Flex-A-Lite controller: only 30A. Is the hose in the pix on the top of this page at the bottom of the radiator?

I've arrived!! Randy's tying up loose ends and I'm catching up on some lost sleep (crazy Thanksgiving revelers). Tomorrow I'll be picked up by iaintscared1969's latest creation; FJ62/V8.........YES!!!!!!!

Don't stress bro; it's all good. This weather sucks though.

All I know is: better he broke it than me braking it in the middle of nowhere on the way home. I don't want to be heard "squeeling like a pig" out in the bayou country; (key the banjo music)!

Heeeeyyyy, we reserve that sort of special "welcome" for Jeep drivers!! It's been a great thread to follow, and I wish you a safe journey. I'll have to start a savings plan for next year now that I've seen the results of some really great work.

Unfortunately, I-10 is closed through bayou country due to a natural gas fire close to the interstate. If you head south on 49, you'll have to take hwy190 to Baton Rouge then down to I10/I12E.

just got off the phone...

Mr. gswest is currently driving his baby once again.

She is on her way home!

OK I will get some sleep when Scott get's home safe and sound. Here is the proud new owner of a VJ-62! Oh and Scott remember...0-60 is easy, it is the 60-0 that sucks! Keep me posted on the trip back no matter what the time. The weather here in DFW really sucked for him to be able to play alot but it is all good!! And here is a video of the departure...:crybaby:

Randy,

Have you tried running just the ford contur dual electric fans without the GM OEM clutch fan?
if so what's you experience?

another related question dealing with these V-8 swaps (long range fuel tank)
I was looking at the man-a-fre web site and noticed they no longer carry the FJ60 long range tank, but in its place they carry an fj62 long range tank. I asked them a question about it dealing with a V-8 swap. They suggusted running the FJ62 long range tank with the in tank FJ62 fuel pump to power the 5.7 vortec? I assumed that if this was something easy to do, others would have allready done so. Since I have the complete fuel pickup and pump out of the yukon my V-8 came out of, the other option appeared to be that one could transplant a GM fuel fuel pump assembly over into this FJ62 tank. Just wondered if you had considred that or have any knowledege of that. I'm not a fabricator, but the guy who is helping do my truck is. I don't recall seeing anything similar here on mud about such a swap.

Hey Elbert, I have run them without the clutch fan, and they will run just fine. I like the clutch fan on there because you can wire in a toggle switch to turn off your electric fans when you are running in deep water or just don't choose to use them. Also if the clutch fan doesn't keep up when towing on they go. As for the 62 fuel pump I would check what the stock pressure they can maintain. For the 200) and newer engines you need 62 psi @ 0 vacuum. I think the 5.7 run a little lower on the older blocks so I think you can get away with it. I know you could on a TBI engine since they only require 12-15 psi for those systems. You can use the 62 tank for your truck. Just make sure you get the straps with it. the fuel pump of the GM could also be transplanted. I think the reason most people like the in lines is that if a problem arises they can just take it off and put in a new pump without taking down the tank.

Hope Scott is making good time.
