Another 1hdt gets a 3" exhaust

I totally miss the growl and whistle!! I'm already thinking of adding an exhaust cutout to bypass the muffler for normal driving. I'll use the muffler only when highway cruising. I thought the Aeroturbine would make better sounds.

Mine is a little quiet as well...I got talked into adding a muffler :(

I built a 3" SS inside the chassis turbo back with an Aero 3030XL that exits out the back similar to OEM not long ago and it makes a nice sound, bit like a big truck, but a lot louder than I was after so I added an extra silencer right on the end along the rear quarter. I bought the smaller size Aero at the same time and swapped between them a few times on the drive while I was building it and it didn't seem like there was a massive difference to be honest but maybe under power there would be a bigger difference. I got a SS Supra flange for the turbo and made a short dump pipe and I'm wondering if that's why it's quite so loud, without that OEM flange restriction right at the turbo.

FinderScuba-

Did they do any work to your dump pipe to go from the 1HDT to the 3"? I am in the process of putting a 1HDT in my 64 FJ40 and bought the 3030XL aeroturbine already due to everyone saying the 3" is the way to go. About to purchase "J" mandrel and some SS straight pipe. Now just need to figure out the flange and connection to the dump pipe.

Thanks.

After doing my 3" exhaust at home and using the factory elbow off the turbo I wasn't happy knowing that I still had a portion smaller than 3" and still had the less-than-smooth insides of the factory elbow.......so I spent the money and ended up getting a 3.5" dump pipe from Beaudesert. It's quite nice.

Here's a couple of comparison photos...

Interested in more info about the Baudesert elbow. Did they build this one custom for you, or is it considered an off-the-shelf item?

I have a GTurbo Grunter Extreme going into my 1HD-FT equipped FJ45, and we will be building a custom 3" exhaust...this would certainly remove the factory bottle-neck.

I'm also interested in some more info on the Beadesert downpipe, looks like a really nice piece!

Their website doesn't really list products so I ended up using the "quote" form and going back and forth with them a couple of times before I managed to order something. Being on the other end of the world makes communication a bit tricky.

They call it 3.5" and it reduces to 3" just before the supplied mating flanges. Not cheap, I paid over 300 CAD shipped from Australia including ceramic coating. Basically an off-the-shelf item but the ceramic coating was an option. Keep in mind, that price was from almost 5 years ago...

I emailed Denco and a guy on Australian Ebay who had a stainless unit for sale in December. We'll see what happens.

keep us posted .. would be nice to have that piece or art .. ( or similar ? )

I think the 100-Series Denco unit should work, but the exhaust would be run inside the frame rail instead of out in the fender. I'll check for clearance tomorrow.

This is how ATEB does it here in Vancouver, look up Enigma on here and he has photos.
