Is that Cheech Marin in Post 130?

OMG, no that's"cruiser _guy", a fellow mudder from neighboring Guatemala (really Canada) when he stopped by for a visit en route to Honduras. In temperament couldn't be farther from Cheech but now that you mention it around the moustache...

Excellent solution.

I like to use larger wire if I can too. I just don't see what purpose 22GA serves in trucks. 16 is about the lightest I like to see, for just about anything.

See folks, this is why you don't just put in a bigger fuse or use a gum wrapper. You don't want to be "that PO" do you?!?!

Dan

Dan I still can't believe all of this drama because that numb skull was too cheap to spend $22.60 in parts to replace a couple of relays. I have spools of 14 and 12 on order. I'm going to try to replace the thin stuff with that where I can.

He looked nothing like that when he stopped by with his Wife this summer. Thanks for clearing that up.

That is most definitely me!!

But you have not answered the question of whether or not you are Cheech Marin or not.

You'll have to sing "My Momma talkin' to me trying to tell me how ta live...... But I don't listen to 'er cause my head is like a sieve......" to truly put the debate to rest. :hillbilly:

edit--does that mean that the 55 in the pics is your 3B'd 55? Very nice!

Yes, the '55 in the pic's is my turbo 3B powered '55 and No, I'm not Cheech Marin (I don't even know who that is).

Charles,
Cheech Marin was part of a comedy duo in the 70s and 80's, Cheech and Chong. See below, probably not the kind of flicks you were into then. Here is what these guys are talking about:

Dan,
Charles' 55 looks that nice and drives even nicer. It even came with a Toyota PTO...after seeing a couple of them work..I want one for the rear.

I knew there was a resemblence... looks like family there.

Anyways, sorry for the Hijack... but every thread needs one.

No sweat on the hijack and as to the Cheech thing, I have to admit until I found that old pic of Cheech I didn't see it. You really weren't far off. Good eye.

Anyway, I'm now waiting on my 12 circuit Blue Sea fuse blocks (2) to arrive in the mail along with a couple of spools of 14 and 16 gauge wire. I'm headed back to the States tomorrow for my brother's retirement from the Air Force. I'll see if I can score some lengths of that plastic wire conduit and some of the "T" and "Y"junctions and some red and black lengths of battery cable and bring it all back with me as I really don't want to wait for more parts in the mail.

Blue Sea Fuse blocks arrived

Well after some weeks of being dead in the water waiting for stuff the Blue Sea 12 circuit fuse blocks (2) arrived today as well as a roll of 14 gauge wire and the LEDs that I order from superled.com. The bad news on the blocks is that I wanted to mount them veritcally in the glove box along one of the the side walls but they are too tall. :bang: I am now thinking about mounting them along the sidewalls of the glove box interior but horizontally. This position has the benefit of being up higher and away from any water that might get in as well as more accesible than the stock position. Any thoughts on this idea?

The bad news is that when I went over to the shop to get going on the install I found out that the owner, who has been fixing all of my screw ups on the car, had an accident the day before. He was working on the planetary gear of the winch belonging to another club member. He swears that he blocked it all off before reaching in but he got distracted for a second and one of the gears spun a bit snatching off the top of his right index finger just above the joint.:crybaby: As luck would have it the member whose rig he was working on is a doctor and was standing there. He was rushed to the hospital where another member who is a surgeon was waiting but sadly there wasn't enough of the tip to be able to sew back on. So they cleaned it up and gave him a neat stump.

He seems to be taking this all in stride just bored with the fact that he is now laid up until after Christmas. The only thing that he is worried about is that he may not be able to shoot now, he hunts anything, with what's left of his trigger finger. After speaking to him he is looking for an easy project to do while I'm away for Christmas (he does feel quite up to doing the fine electrical work as his first post accident project right off the bat) so I told him to get to work on fabbing up my Stainless Steel snorkle. That way we can do the fine electrical work together when I get back and then send the thing off to paint for the rest of January. I'll also use my time back home for Christmas trying to pull together the parts that I need for my rear disc brake conversion. Just nothing about this easy.

Zekster inspired SS snorkel and OEM head

Ok a quick note the Blue Sea blocks are in , mounted in the glove box each on a sidewall and horizontal I'll grab pick tomorrow and add them as an edit to this post. The battery cable is on order so pics of that part will have to wait. Today the SS snorkel.

Late last week I took a trip over to the muffler shop that re-did my exhaust and spoke to the owner. I showed her a pic of one of Zekster's SS snorkels. I wanted to replicate this one as it is by far the best design I have seen out there of the stainless steel variety. I would have bought one from Zekster but the shipping of it here to Central America would have thrown me over budget for this segment.
I went over to the exhaust shop that did my new exhaust and spoke to the owner. I showed her a picture of what I wanted her guys to do. I told her that it had to be one piece three bends ans run the angle to match the rig hood and windshield lines. She said that no one had ever asked them to try anything like it before but she thought that her guys could handle it. After dickering with her over price I bought 1 meter of 3" SS exhaust pipe.
Here is what came out of the bender .

I measured the place on the left side where I wanted the snorkel to enter the engine bay and found the it just made it but I didn't have a hole saw big enough to time for a trip to the mechanics shop so he could cut the hole in my baby and weld the brackets on the snorkel.

Now time for paint in my "semi-pro" paint booth :grinpimp:

Now to the snorkel head. After much discussion with otther members of my local 4x4 club. The consensus was that the best head for the snorkel was the OEM Toyota head. It turned out that several of the non-Toyota guys were running the Toyota OEM head. Here are the links to separate threads that I was on first trying to identify a part number for the OEM head.

Second trying to actually find an OEM head here in Central America.

Through a lot of luck in finally finding a parts guy at the dealership who gets that I'm trying to rebuild and upgrade the rig I picked up the last OEM snorkle head in Central America. If someone else has already ordered one then it will be here in a 45 days or so from Japan. If not it isn't clear if they plan to keep them in stock or leave them as a special order item.

A word about the construction of the OEM snorkel head. It is made of a very hard and sturdy plastic. From the last pic it has a conical shape and features an angled rain gutter and angled air vents on the underside to get the air spinning as it is sucked up into the intake. Getting the air to spin is important as I suspect it then facilitates the depositing of contaminants and particulate matter into cyclonic filter which should be housed inside of the head. The cyclonic filter is a seperate item and thus far I have had no luck in identifying a part number for it.

A word re: the PO. In a quest to make dumb and dumber decisions the PO removed the entire air filtration/cleaning system and replaced it with a length of hose attached to the back of on of those K & N racing cold air intakes. When I was planning the snorkel I knew that I would have to make sure that we worked a filter into the setup. I know that theoretically I could have just ordered up most of the OEM air filter setup but I didn't for two reasons. One on saturday I was shown an email from Toyota central in Japan to the dealership telling them that they would no longer be manufacturing or sending over parts for the B engine. The dealership was instructed to return any deposits that it was holding for any special order item related to the B engine. As such I found out there was no OEM sir filtration system to be had here. Second, and in part because of #1, I have decided to replace the B engine with the 1HZ. As such I'm not putting anymore money into B engine upgrades instead I'm saving my nickels to get the 6 cylinder turbo diesel.

Therefore I still needed to work an air filter into this setup. Enter the $15 blinged out cone sahped filter.
