IFS and solid axle hub bodies are different. Most of the difference is the dishing at the base. The handle and clutch assemblies are the same from solid axle through Tacoma and interchangeable. The 30 spline gear from the solid axle hub will fit into an IFS hub body, but I haven't tried to see if the Birfield will line up correctly.
Ummm, weekend experiment? I have both in the garage.
Yes it works I know of many people who just swap the 30 spline gear in and it works EXACTLY the same as the solid axle hub.
Which begs the question "why would you want to?" If you have the gear, you also have the body. Why not just run solid axle hub? The last I checked the gear was not available from Toyota as a separate part, but is available from Longfields.
Because the IFS hubs are easy to get and cheap.
Longfield sells the replacement gear made out of chrome-moly steel. So in effect, you can convert an IFS hub to a solid axle hub that fits Minitrucks, FJ40, FJ60, FJ62.
Aren't the IFS hubs a little shorter? IE they don't stick out so far? That's stuck in my head for some reason...
