Adding some more information to the diy roof rack. I had to remove the rack ends (2001 model). There a small torx bolt on the underside and then you can pry off the plastic cap in an upward direction.

After that there's 2 bolts holding it down.

Just loosen the cross bars and slide off after that.

Pictured was the best way I found to remove the little bolt on the plastic cap

Love it... What made you install the awning on the driver side vs the passenger? Always wondered what size mattered.

Thanks! my thinking was a passenger was probably more likely to bang on it or grab onto it getting into the truck or something. No real reason on which side. Will get it out again next weekend and then a few weeks again after that so maybe i'll see which side. The only time I can see it really mattering is if I have to back into a spot or pull straight in forward in order to get the awning situated.

With quarantine I got bored and wanted a rack but didn't want to drop close to 1k so I found some inspiration from 2 threads here on mud. if you search 8020 roof rack you should come across them. One was in the 200 series forum.

I went with the 15 series aluminum extrusions from www.tnutz.com (yes it's a Z on the end and yes they are legit)
the 15 series are just about the right thickness to be flush with the factory rails.
I went with the 1x1 corner gussets as opposed to plain L brackets and the 2x2 corner gussets seem to take up too much space for my liking.

Be sure to measure the width between your factory rails at all points you plan on placing a cross bar since there seems to be some variance among different trucks and years too. I measured probably 10 times with 2 tape measures before placing an order.

I also went with the standard tnuts and not the economy ones. Later on I may use economy for some attachments. I also went with the counterbore option as it should give me access to drop in carriage bolts or tnuts without having to slide them in from the end.

I've screen shotted my exact order.

This is basically the same type of bars that prinsu and prospeed and some other aftermarket rack makers are using. This is enough for me and should be for a while. The bars had a slight deflection when I stood in the center of it but i don't foresee myself putting that much weight on it in a single point.

i figure this I'll post a shameless plug here also for my instagram : www.instagram.com/ventureworks.us

This is perfect! I don’t want to drop 1k on a roof rack but it would be nice to have the option for cheaper. What was the total material cost?

Clumsily put the awning up for the first time. Second go should be better next weekend! I may try some yellow/orange film to go over it so it isn't so eye piercing blue.

Are these SCS F5's black or gun metal? Debating on which color to get for my (tan) LX470 and love the look of these on your rig!

P.S - I've got an 'Adventure Chaser' 100 series shirt that I stumbled across somewhere. Love it. I assume that is your handy-work?

putting my information here for what I did for my own reference and others
hyper blinking fix with relay for 100 series land cruiser
LED blinkers and relay used and needed for normal flashers
https://amzn.to/311avtd LED relay
I went with amber blinker bulbs and corner bulbs
https://amzn.to/3jSp75N amber city light i think only pre facelift has these
https://amzn.to/2SRuPbS 1157 amber bulbs
https://amzn.to/36XFg61 7443 amber bulbs
https://amzn.to/3dmX7EY reverse bulbs that actually work GREAT in my 2001 land cruiser reverse light housing. These things blow PFRAN reverse light away. His lights actually were worse than OEM for me.

@chudly nice pick for the amber lights on the side markers.

If I understand correctly...
Your side markers are clear.
You added an amber LED light into the side markers.
The side markers are steady on (with the day time running lights).
But the side markers blink when you are signaling left or right?

Trying to understand if it's possible to get the side markers to blink with the signals..

Thank you!

they are these
i see they are out of stock
try ebay

i'm looking for a 5th one and reached out to them and they said nov/dec there should be a restock!

Hey! Just figured I'd give you a heads up that SCS appears to have these wheels back in stock. I know you mentioned you were looking for a 5th, so I figured I'd give you a heads up if you didn't already know.

Also, I just ordered a set and am trying to figure out if I need to order lugs .... or do the tires come with a set?

If they don't, is it the SCS Spline Lugs M14x1.5 that I need? They've got a few options and I don't have the slightest clue how to figure out which ones I need. Haha.
