I am thinking of replacing mine as well, but until now I couldn't find the upper plastic trim replacement. My upper plastic trim that holding window weatherstrip is broken badly in many places, some broken pieces even missing already. Anyone know where I can find one? I want to keep it original look.

Someone also makes a steel version...

I made my own out of ABS sheet and then attached to the doors with industrial self adhesive Velcro strips. I used the original cards for patterns and transferred all the original parts to the new material.

Is this the part you’re looking for?

Not that one, but the upper part of door panel (plastic/ABS) where the weather strip attach to/ clip onto. I can find the door card panel but not the upper part.

Kydex can be used for door cards and panels. Bush pilots have used it for years.

But wait, there’s more.... it’s produced in tacticool colors that match the interiors of the FZJ80

Will the new cards from the Au seller just rot and bend like the OEM ones?
So I’m pretty sure the replacement door cards they sell are the same material as the stock ones. You swap all your leather and plastic over. Or you can buy the ABS ones which only get the old plastic parts swapped over. No issues with bending, breaking, or rotting. And they have a different style push pin to hold them to the door.

I think the abs is a tad thicker than the stock cards. And they use a different type of fastener. One that goes in from the front vs the slide from the rear like the stock panels. So if you swapped the leather you would be covering the holes all together.

You might be able to have them special make a set with the factory panel pattern.

Did you ever find replacement solution for the upper plastic trim? I have 1997 fj80 same problem. Took doors apart to repair door actuators and window motors and the plastic just fell apart When installing new window felts.

Are you talking about the piece circled in red?

If so, did it literally crumble, or is it cracked and broken into several large pieces?

For the Australian door cards and not swap over the US top rollover top trim piece that holds the inner weather stripping I have these part numbers. I think most of these are NLA, also my research could be inaccurate since I haven't ordered or installed them.

Aussie:

Front (Right and Left) - 68170-60040
Rear Right - 68190-60010
Rear Left - 68240-60010

Yes the circled part/area

is the one I am looking for a solution.

Many cracks, pieces missing and most of the holes where the weatherstrip is attached are cracked too.
worst part is by the front of door. The picture is driver side door but all doors have issues.

I did the door lock actuator/window motor refresh project and down the rabbit hole I go!

Just a random note: the plastic at the top on mine was black ABS. ABS is available without pigments, in which case it would look like yours. I can't imagine that any additive would make such a difference in brittleness with heat exposure. Makes me wonder if an entirely different plastic was used in your market or model year.
