Thanks!! Ya know, since the wife was nice enough to lose me to the garage for so many nights I thought it wise to put an automatic in it. If it wasn't for that the engine would have definitely been Toyota. I tried the 3F-E and a440 but no-go. I'm pretty happy with the 4.3. It will light the 35s (well, i guess 35, no locker yet) up and pulls pretty well. I'm on the lookout for another dirt cheap 40 to do it all again and trust me, it will be powered by Toyota.

You are an animal with tons of drive and ingenuity! You have done an amazing job. Congrats! It's looking great!

What did the fuel tank come out of??? I am on the hunt for a fuel tank that will work in the rear of my 75 FJ40.

Thanks
Joe

Wow, been a while since I've been on. I cut the metal 1/2" long or so and just went around with some vice grips and slowly bent it over. In the rounded spots I cut relief cuts up to my line so they would fold over. Not pretty up close but works well.
As for wraping the quarters around the rear I just put my hip into it and spot welded a little at a time. Not fun.

88 s-10 blazer. Craigslist for 5 bucks. Be prepared to move the entire filler setup and fuel lines.

You know i have been doing Custom body and paint work for the last 30yrs, and i must admit this came out DAMN good! Most of what i do is street rods, but i have always loved the FJ's. My first car was a 71 FJ40 and that is what started my love for these rigs. My 69 looks nowhere near as good as yours!!! I have not had much time to work on mine, as customer cars come first. I will tell you this-If you lived in Tucson i would be offering you a job!!!! Hard working, skilled- WANTING to learn people are hard to find. I have had A helper for the last 20yrs, but i would trade him for you in a heart-beat!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! As you are finding out, they are never done!! I do agree with your statement, "I hate chrome" . Could pick the body work apart but, But bottom line- Its not a street rod and frankly most of them are a bunch of :crybaby:. Have fun showing off your rig, you EARNED IT!!!

Wow, that's killer. Thanks. Means alot. Maybe a migration out west is in order! :grinpimp:

Have you had a chance to fully flex out the rear of the suspension to determine if the diff misses the tank?

Diff clears just fine. I've had it teetering on DS rear and PS front and it just clears.

I'm thinking about trading the 40. I like building them waaay to much. I think if I could get 2 stock 40s out of it I'd be happy. I want to build another like this one and I have a wild idea for the second. I have a 69 C-10 to finish first and this one will probably be going on the for sale board pretty soon. Hmmm, decisions decisions.

Thanks! Just what I needed to know.

This was your 1st?

Did you say this was your first time doing this kind of work on this scale? Dude you threw down really hard by anyones standards. Lots of people would be capable but there aren't many with the patience and determination to do all that you did. Looks like you have a passion for it. So cool. Great job man.
