HAM Radios work way better than CB's, but you do need license to operate them! Many of the trail leaders and gunners have both and several rigs have them each year! Much clearer comms for sure! If you don't have a license you can always listen, but you can't respond, unless it's an emergency situation.

anyone planning on using HAM?
We've found GMRS to be a far better alternative to CB without having to take the test to get the license for HAM. I have a 40W midland I bought using the discounts they gave us last year and paid the fee for the license and am able to hand out the 5w walkie talkies that dont require a license to people who dont have them. I have a CB setup just for HIH. I still plan on trying to get my HAM license in the near future as well.

But HAM i more fun :)

HIH will use CB. Yes, it’s outdated but it’s simple and requires mostly nothing except opposable thumbs.

I'll have a SWR meter and a butane soldering iron with me for anyone who needs help getting their CB setup or tuned.

Is there a group buy for discounts for CB radios? Thanks.
I need to pick up a cb before the trip as well. I'm wondering if a handheld with its attached antenna will work for the trail rides since we will be in close proximity or if I need to get a antenna mounted or a magnetic one for the roof. I'm fine either way but being able to use the handheld without mounting an antenna would be one less thing on list of things to do.
