My '98 has 206,000 miles now. it still has the original tranny, I learned from this forum to drain and refill the tranny and avoid do a complete tranny flush. Btw, I am the original owner.

My 2000s tranny finally died yesterday- 2 miles from the dealership... I am so glad it did the first 90 miles just fine.

Toyota reman/ rebuild going in. 1yr/100,000 miles

$3500 out the door. Then they gave me a 10% off coupon. $3150 out the door after discount-

Teton Toyota and Service guy Travis very fair I thought... Final verdict on test drive.

and what were the symptoms? sounds like you were on the way to the dealer anyway when it went?

1999 with about 190k... assuming low/poor maintanence given what I've found on the rest of the LC... haven't addressed it yet either.

Running well on original tranny as far as I can tell.

Mine was a 2000. I've since sold it, but put a new tranny in fron the dealer around 80k. It sounded like a box of rocks when it died.

Mike.

question: I can't find an answer, is Royal Purple ATF okay to use in these transmissions? I see people mention using M1 and Amsoil ATF, but not Royal Purple.

I don't know about their tranny stuff, but the local guy who is the differential rebuild guru has a bench full of "purple casualty" third members:meh:

Really? I use royal purple motor oil and a K&N oil filter, so I put RP gear oil in the transfer case. The low range shifter doesn't have any vibrations to the touch at speed anymore. I used M1 gear oil in the diffs to save $50.

2000 LX470 158K original tranny so far no problems I just bought this 3 weeks ago. It will get the amsoil tranny fluid in it very soon. I will also change the filter in it too.

I use RP in tranny, tcase, and differentials. So far no problem. Knock on wood. I struck a good price with RP. Was cheaper than Mobil1 at the time of purchase.

Build date for my 2000 was 12/99.
