That is ugly! My wife put a connecting rod through a corolla engine once. filled it back up with oil and drove it to the dealer 20 miles away.

Thats crazy, this motor was way siezed, from the top, you can see one of the pistons rotated about 15 dgrees, not good. I think that last picture I posted shows the connecting rod wedged between the block and the crank.

Heres some pictures of that new exhasut kit, its on a palet up on the racks, so I didnt want to lift it down and lay it all out. Use your imagination as to where they will fit. Keep in mind this is for the 90-92 only, it wont fit anything else.

Thanks Steve-O, did you use stock cats with that set up? I've got a big trash-can sized muffler (stock?), what type (muffler) are you using in those pics, any problems with the Cali. smog police with that unit. Oh and the $60,000 question..
any noticeable improvment in POWA and or economy from the ol' 3fe.
Later, Cliff

I have to check with the cats when I install it. The customer we put this kit on, also got the 5 speed at the same time, so he noticed a lot of power. I'll let everyone know my honest opinion when I do it. I would like to run different cats, but we'll see. So far everything should be smog legal. And yes, the trash can that weighs about 50 lbs is the stock muffler. The new muffler will be much lighter, smaller, and free-flowing.

Steve-O,
Nice write up. Keep us posted on the proto exhaust. I'm sure every 3FE owner on this board will be interested in this upgrade.

Dude......are you old enough to drive car.....let alone your GF? :D

and yes I would in a 2nd build that gal what she wanted

nice work all the way around :)

Aren't you busy enough with day to day stuff.

Steven

Yeah, too busy. I literally work on my truck on my lunch break and after work if I want to stay late!

Pimp, I'm 22, I guess I just age better than you! :flipoff2: I know I'm pretty young, but I work hard and know my stuff.
Thanks for the compliment!

Maybe I'm a little too fussy, but bolting an exhaust hanger to the floor is a little to hillbilly for my taste.

I'm not quite sure what that thing is in the picture, but we mounted the exhaust off of the frame like stock, you can see the new mount in the picture. That strap thing isnt really attatched to anything, the customer had it there from some other thing he did. Its ok to be fussy about that, but technically we arent hillbillies until we hang the exhaust with a coat hanger, keep checking back for that.

Free is always better when doing the fine art of coat hanger engineering! :D

P. S. Woody, we need the smiley guy with the tooth missing!

Well I just finished putting the new rings on at lunch. I went with a set of Deves rings, I am sure that most people would agree that these are some of the best made. They have a 4-piece oil ring assembly as opposed to the 3-piece stock. They also have a scraper built into the #2 compression ring that the stock ones dont.

Steve that is an exhaust hanger, I have 2 of them on my truck. Needed them to hold the POS Borla on. I'd love to see you guys come up with a solution for the later 80s.

He might have had some other exhaust on there before, probably a borla. Either way, its not hooked up to anything now. We are working on the other 80 exhausts, but other projects are topping our list of "to do"
