Well I finally seperated the old motor from the transmission last night. I was only able to get 4 of the 6 flexplate bolts out, so the torque convertor stayed with the motor, leaving me a little more work tonight. I couldnt rotote the engine a full revolution either way to get the other bolts out. The rod that blew was getting jammed between the crank and block.

I also got my new motor on the stand so I can start putting that back together.

Heres a few more pictures of last nights work. I managed to get all of the pistons in, the oil pump on and the new oil pan on. The old pan was all mangled on the inside from when the old motor blew. I also purchased a factory Toyota pan gasket, much better than the 4-piece aftermarket ones.

The second picture is my old motor with the yawned connecting rod. It opened up so much that it wont fit through the cylinder walls. So we took a sawzall and cut the rod. I should be able to get the other flex-plate bolts out and put the converter back on the tranny now.

With a new seal right? :D

Ok, the cylinder head is on, pushrods are in, and the the rocker assembly is back on. So far everything has gone together pretty well. The hardest part I am having is losing my old hardware, I have the tendency to put stuff somewhere where I wont lose it, then I never see it again. So, all new bolts hold the rocker assembly and oil filter bracket on... :D

Steve-O,
Got any updates on this project? Do you have any ideas on a price and/or availability of the proto exhaust? Nice build up.

Looks great Steve-O! Your GF must be so proud...

BTW: I'm only 23... thats why I don't post pics of myself!

Yeah shes really looking forward to it being completed. I do shock people I guess when they learn my age, but why keep it a secret? Who cares, people are too judgemental these days. :flipoff2: Heres another picture of me.

Ok well back to what I started this thread for.......... I was able to stay late last night and get a lot of the external parts put on. I did the water pump, thermostat housing (with new thermostat), motor mounts, alternator, heater pipes, distributor, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and a bunch of different hoses. etc.

Ok...... the next few photos may shock or disturb you. I was very reluctant when doing this, but it is what she wanted. I think it turned out good for what it is, but still, its wierd.

It all started Monday when I told my girlfreind I will be painting her valve cover Wed, and she could have it any color she wanted......this of course was a joke. She took me seriously and after she found out what a valve cover is, she decided on a color. So like any good boyfriend, husband or whatever would do, I fullfilled her wishes....... Heres the stock color cover, the primered cover, followed by the new cover.

Sure, what did you want prices on? I know its wrong, but hey, its not my rig, she wanted it purple! So I did it! It did turn out pretty good though.

FJBEN: You found that picture pretty quick dude, did you have it saved in your favorites?

Doug, dont lie, you want to send your valve cover to me to paint it for you! I have an airbrush too, I could do some custom flames for you!

Haha.... I can just see her popping the hood to show off the valve cover to all her friends, who will then in turn run home to their husbands/borfriends and deman theirs be painted too.

Probably, I'll open up a mini valve cover painting shop for all her friends, make some real money! First I'll have to show her how to pop the hood....... :D
