You bet, she would get any color she wanted, she has the same taste I do with our landcruisers so no big conflict there, keep up the good work and yes, I will either do turbo or v-8, not sure which yet. Your a good man!

Heres the latest photos. The motor is ready to be mated to the tranny. I should be doing that tonight I hope. Then I have to hoook up all the wiring and what-not between the motor and trans. I *should* have the motor in early next week. My goal is to have the thing running by next friday, I just wish I had more time to work on it!

Steve-O MAF Turbo install

Steve-O said:
I recently picked up a 91 FJ80 a few weeks back for a good price (thanks Dennis!). It had a blown motor, so I decided to fix her up and give it to my girlfriend as a much better alternative to her daily dying Sentra. It also had a smashed front bumper, and a few other minor things to replace. After the advice of Brentbba, I decided to post some pictures and minor write-ups of the work I'll be preforming. I am behind this computer the whole day, so the work is moving somewhat slowly. Here's the scoop:

New/rebuilt parts to do....

New shortblock (hone, stone, re-ring, etc.)
Rebuild cylinder head
Calibrated/cleaned fuel injectors
Tuned Headers
Proto-type new 91-92 exhaust kit
O2 sensors
Plugs, cap, rotor, coil, wires, hoses, belts, seals, gaskets, etc.
Tow package
Used (great condition) stock front bumper
Brush gaurd
Used 95 stock springs (91-92 supposedly had shorter springs)

Her budget is limited, so just the neccesities have been performed, with the exception to new parts that I wanted to put on. Now for the photos!
I had already taken the grill and lights off before I brought my camera in, sorry.

Steve,
In addition to showing us you engine re-build whcih is great, YNOT turn this thread into a MAF turbo install showing us detailed progress. :D

Well, because I'm not putting a turbo on this truck. :D Here is where you can find the latest MAF turbo pictures. Let me know what you think in that thread as well!

Unfortunately I havent had much time to work on this the past couple of days. I did manage to get the transmission on (on my second attempt.) The first time I did it, the torque convertor didnt seat all the way into the trans, which would have been really bad........ The second time was nice and smooth, everything fit up sweet and snug.

Headers

Steve,

Thanks for the detailed pics and posts. Just one question remains in my mind...what about those headers you showed in their unassembled form early in this thread? Were they difficult to create? How much power did it add? I'd love to buy a pair $ome day or have a set fabricated for more 3FE power. Then maybe I wouldn't have the urge to bastardize with the Chev :censor: ota mod.

Actually the un-assembled exhaust pieces were the exhaust kit from the headers back. We do sell headers for the 3fe, which you can find here. The headers run nice, but dont expect to be racing any v8's!!

Well the day has finally arrived. I put the hood on today which sealed the deal. The cruiser is finished! :bounce: I havent had anytime to update, and missed a lot of great pictures, but I figured I would show the end result. It runs great, idles smooth, and has the massive 3fe power. It should be in and out of here over the next few months getting more goodies put on, but the GF really just needs a running car for right now.

The prototype exhaust kit we got from our exhaust company sucked, nothing fit right and everything leaked. So for the people interested in the 90-92 exhaust kit, I'm sorry but your going to have to wait until everything is fixed. I made it work with what I could, and just about triple welded every pipe to seal it properly. I'll post some picture of that in my next post.

The tranny pan leaked due to a crack where the skid plate bolted on, I had to drop it twice and weld it up both times before it would finally seal. I also had a few vacuum leaks, hooked up a few hoses backwards, and the throttle cable was all out of whack. I have fixed all of these problems, and everything is working great.

To add to my list of F-ups, I put the distributor in one tooth off, so at the initial start-up the timing was off by quite a bit. Fixed that of course, idled much much better after I put it in right.

I also disconected a heater hose to burp the cooling system. I thought it was all the way cooled down, but it wasnt. Hot coolant burst out all over me and the engine bay. I didnt get burned or anything, but coolant sure doesnt feel good in your eyes.... what a retard.

Oh I also forgot to mention the awsome clear corners I got from Mot yesterday, I think they look pretty sharpe. I got the lower ones off of ebay, they look ok, but the moulding was pretty rank, they were made in Taiwan I think. Heres a few shots of the new down tubes, I had to hacksaw the old cats of the factory down tubes, then weld them to the new ones. I also put new o2 sensors in.

Could you give me an estimate of doing the rebuild? needing to do this sort of thing myself. But mine will be painted a manly HOT PINK!

Thanks
Kent

Well if you send the entire motor here to get overhauled, your looking at about$3,000. Thats for a fully rebuilt motor.

My costs to do the rebuild came out to about $1,000. I had to buy a used shortblock, and you have to keep in mind that I work at a cruiser shop.

All together, including the car, we are into it about $4,000 (roughly).
