90k service parts list

Is it necessary to do all these at 90k?
Depends on how you balance cost, risk of breakdown, and hassle of intermediate maintenence intervals. Some would say you don't even need to do the timing belt at 90k. Mr. T says the belt should be done. Extra 'while you're in there' items determined by how you weigh the factors above. Do consider this is a group of enthusiasts with many over-maintaining their rigs. I'm in that camp.

I'll add...

My list is more based on a 180k mile service or the servicing of a truck at 12 years of age. At that age, I would submit that the hoses all need to be replaced. Again, at 90k, I would also do the fan bracket as neither of mine have made it from the 90k mile service to the 180k mile mark. Cam and crank seals are probably more of a 180k item. The fan clutch and radiator I am doing more based on my higher mileage and that's me being very much into PM.

Everyone is different on this stuff.

HTH, and YMMV

Or order this one and get the thermostat/Cam and Crank seals locally and save a couple hundred dollars. This is the exact OEM pump and belt and worked perfectly on my 99 LC

Good luck with the repair - like most if any questions pop up don't hesistate to ask!

Edit* Just looked at the link - the price went way up. When I bought the same kit in November it was $177 delivered. Maybe look around amazon for the better price.

So I am clear, these are things that should be done at every 90k interval? I am going to probably hit 360k late this year, and want to make sure I am on top of the wear items.

I know I am way late to the party but is there somewhere to buy all of the mentioned parts/fluids/seals/belts etc as a kit? 90K maintenance lit etc? The links in this post are broken. THX!!

I am about to tackle this. I recently bought a 2003 with 226k. Well serviced West TX car. Last major service was a few months before I bought it. Included All fluids, oils throughout drive train, coolant, plugs, pads and rotors. Last TB service at 136 k, 8 years ago. I found this on eBay. Should this cover it, or is anything else recommended while in there?1998-2005 TOYOTA Land Cruiser 4.7L V8 Aisin Water Pump & Timing Belt Kit W/ Hose | eBay

I would get a few things beyond that kit. Make sure it has the water outlet O-ring (not the thermostat one), my kit didn't have it.

Serpentine Idler pulley - My bearing was shot at 250k. I didn't realize until I got in there, wish I would have bought ahead of time.
Fan Clutch - My bearing was awful.
Fan Bracket - once again, the bearing was shot and didn't know until I disassembled it.
Radiator cap

I'd buy all the things above ahead of time so you can get good online pricing. I was stuck paying full retail for a lot of parts because I couldn't wait a week to get stuff shipped. For an engine with over 200k I would put money down that all the bearings are due for change.

The water outlet housing is also a bear to get out. I cracked mine upon removal. The previous "mechanic" had used a sealant/cement to seal it instead of relying on the O-ring for sealing. It was incredibly stuck, even after I cracked it. I've seen a few others on here crack it just like me and there was sealant on theirs as well. Apparently it's a common practice among some mechanics to use sealant on that joint when it is not called for. "Next guy's problem" kind of mentality there, I guess.

Wow! Thanks for the quick response. I love this site it's awesome!

So, I'm still on the fence as to which kit to get....the one from eBay seems very comprehensive. Do you think that would be a good way to go? The Amazon kit is the basic timing belt water pump kit and the other one from eBay seems to have a lot of other pulleys, hoses O-rings Etc. It's more than twice the price of the basic timing belt water pump kit. I haven't had a chance to price all the parts online but I'm guessing it's probably pretty competitive?

And I was cross-referencing it with the list that OregonLC posted back in 2015, it looks to be a close match with the exception of the hoses

You'd have to price it all out piece by piece, but everything in the eBay kit is worth changing (and then some). After doing my timing belt on a rather well maintained and cared-for, garaged vehicle, I would plan on replacing far more than the average T-belt kit at ~200-250k+. It gets into the preventative vs wait til it fails mindset.

I'd also change the little coolant hoses right in front of the timing belt cover. I thought they were in my laundry list of parts, but they were not. Instead, I ended up with a bunch of hoses for the rear of the engine that I didn't end up changing since I ran out of time. The small hoses in front of the timing case should be relatively cheap and would be a big pain to change at a later date. Definitely falls into the "while you're in there" category for me. Should be three hoses, one winding one and two small ones.

Don't have part numbers on hand, but a worthy parts counter guy or Toyodiy should lead you there. ;)

Thanks for the tip on the small hoses I'll be looking for those as well. Yeah when I get a chance I'm going to sit down on a websites and try and figure out the price of these things. Been under the truck all day reindexing the t bars and doing the lift... fun.

What is the consensus on the next best oil filter (and where to get them if not widely available) for the 100 series these days since the JDM 90915-20004 seems no longer available? Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this question or if there's another dedicated thread. My apologies if this is not the right thread. Thank you.

I used to use the 20004's on my 4th gen 4Runner. When I ran out, I moved over to the M1-209. I used Amsoil drive train fluid and ATE brake fluid and aftermarket filters on it. When I got my 100 I decided to keep it simple use all OEM parts and fluids/lube I can find at the local car parts store or Walmart. There's a thread here on Mud that you can still buy the 20004 filters overseas somewhere.
