Retitle the thread to say “Moose Hunter 60”?

progress the last 2 weeks hasn’t been what we were hoping but life does that to you sometimes. Got the coilovers and bump stops mounted, everything is cycling well. Was challenging to get everything packaged how and where we wanted it to be but it’s mostly coming together.

First two pics are close to where everything will sit at ride height

Upper link and the hydraulic pump are very close acquaintances, hopefully not too close during a really hard hit

All in all, it’s coming together pretty good. Happy with how everything is placed, had to compromise on a couple things, mostly ride height, but I like that the coilovers are standing pretty close to vertical in both directions and I’m pretty happy with the positioning on the bump stops. Should get 3-3.5 inches of up travel before they engage depending on what we dial in for final height.

Gonna kinda be at a stand still potentially for the next couple of weeks, ordered most of the brackets for the leaf springs from ruff stuff about 2 months ago but they haven’t shipped yet. Pretty disappointed overall with their service, wouldn’t recommend giving them your money unless you don’t have any other options.

Cool build, dude! Can't really tell how that rear dump exhaust manifold clearance look? Having put a 5.3 in an 80 with an electric fan, I had lots of problems with it. Ended up putting a clutch fan in it, and it cooled a hell of a lot better.

So close where the pan hard comes under the frame at full stuff. May have to sleeve it out potentially for a bit of a factor of safety but we will see

Well for now that basically it, we are all caught up. Bump stop cans arrive tomorrow, fab guy should be working on the shock towers and getting the coils mounted, should hopefully have a bit of another update for you guys some time early next week. Hoping by end of next week that the front end is totally done and burnt into place. But for you, hope you enjoyed checking it out and enjoy the wait with me.
Im surprised you don't have this in the hard-core section im not complaining let's see more.

It looks like it’s just barely gonna clear with an elbow straight off manifold. An ear on the Th400 is gonna have to get trimmed to get it past the bell housing and upper link.

Went with an electric fan so that I have the ability to shut it off during water crossings. A good friend of mine exploded his clutch fan during a water crossing and it caused a lot of carnage. But we will see if the electric fans can keep up

It’s gonna be pretty dang tight but I think we will just squeak past it

I’m new, didn’t see the hardcore section. Mostly wanted to post it on mud so that when someone else has the crazy idea of turning a 60 into something a little different that maybe this will help them. I’ve been lurking on this site off and on for the past 7 or so years collecting information but there just isn’t a lot of examples of guys trying to do what I’m doing

I'm typically over in the 40 section but checked out the 60 section because much of my rig is from an FJ60. Read through your build, looking good!

My first I thought was also that you might get more examples of work similar to your build and better advice over here.

Getting closer on the front end, should be able to put the tires on it this weekend and start messing with spring rates.

Hydro steer is coming along. Not in love with the blocky design but it works. Didn’t have as many options as I would have liked due to having to mount the ram so low in order to clear the frame rails. So far, not rebuilding the front 25% of the frame is about the only thing I regret with how it’s all working out.

If I could do it again I would raise the front frame rails 3-4 inches and most of the really tight clearances would have all of the sudden had a lot more space and we would have had a lot more options with the hydro steer and pan hard. As it is right now, at full stuff the pan hard and the hydro steer are about as close to hitting the frame rails as we are comfortable with.

This gives you an idea of how close all of the clearances are. As the passenger side goes up the pan hard lays right in front of the cylinder. If you notice, we had to machine a bevel in the inspection cap so that it doesn’t hit the pan hard

Can’t wait to post a couple pictures with it sitting on its new set of tires. At least for the front axle

Pretty stoked to share this update. Front axle is basically done. Hydro steer and all the suspension parts are totally welded up and it’s capable of sitting on its own now. Super happy with how it turned out, my friend that built it pretty much checked all the boxes we asked him too. The idea in the beginning was to try to keep it as low as was reasonable, ideally we wanted it to sit at the same height or lower on 43’s as it did spring over on 35’s and he pretty much nailed that. With 6.5 inches of up travel the frame rails were the exact same 28” off the shop floor as they were when we cut the original axles off of it. Really stoked on that.

Still a bunch to do but driving it in June or early July seems like it might actually happen
