MOTOR AND PUMP ASSY, WINDSHIELD WASHER 8531012130

85310-12130 alternate part #. CDan was about $50.

Ordered. Old one lasted 20+ years, hopefully new one lasts as long or longer. Also got a new rubber grommet for a buck more while i was at it. :)

thx spook! twice the cost but should be an easy swap - didn't like seeing the splice connectors on the ones i found @ Amazon.

Yeah I've come to the frame of mind that splice-in connectors on an electrical part are no bueno. If it's designed to be universal like that, you can bet it wasn't designed specifically for our rigs, or nearly up to the standard.

Did not make any noises, the two little gears in the housing were seized together from sediment in the water I WAS running.

Hate to hijack but has anyone one found a replacement nozzle that sprays as opposed to shooting a stream of p**s at the windshield?

A friend of mine put some nozzles from a Tacoma on his 94 mini-truck. He gets a nice fan spray. I'll ask what he had to do to make it work. I'd also like more coverage from the spray.

It's simple. Just have to drill holes in the right locations on the hood and plum the line to the new nozzles. Only real issue is preventing the sheet metal from rusting in the future.

Wiper Squirter weirdness

They'll only squirt with the headlights on by the way

Are you talking about the WINDSHIELD squirters or the HEADLIGHT squirters only working when the lights are on?

Ok, I know this is an old thread, Butt, (heh), but I am suddenly having a strange issue which semi-relates to my old thread here.

The whole time I've had this Cruiser, the HEADLIGHT squirters never worked, (as far as I know). I never actually knew for sure how to turn it on (i know, dumb right?)
The reason I never bothered was due to the fact that the resorvoir for the headlight squirter liquid was all busted open on the top, and all nasty on the inside. I figured the pump for that reservoir was long toasted.

Fast forward to this morning when I went to use my windshield squirters which have worked great since I replaced the pump.
Nothing comes out.
By the way I turn on the squirter from the button on the windshield wiper arm.
Instead of fluid squirting out, there is nothing but this crazy loud electric motor sound coming from somewhere in drivers side of the engine compartment, not the passenger side where the WINDSHIELD WIPER pump is.
Keep in mind I had my side marker/run lights on only because it was still kinda dark out.
I get home and start trying to pinpoint the problem, and this time now there is no fluid squirting out, and no strange motor sound. ( because I have turned the lights off)
I'm looking, looking, looking at the windshield wiper pump, the wiring, fuses, relays, looking in my manual, searching on MUD, looking at my SOR book to see if there's any clues in there for maybe a wiper squirter relay, or maybe a bad wiper switch, bla bla....
Somehow on accident I turn the lights on, and I have my girlfriend hitting the button while i'm looking in the engine compartment, and there's that sound again, it's the pump for the HEADLIGHT squirters! WHAT???
I thank her, and send her back on her way into the house to watch her little TV, as she is annoyed with me at this point...:D... and I decide to fill up the reservoir and see these headlight squirters do there thang, since they have never worked this whole time, while thinking why in the heck do my HEADLIGHT squirters work now all of a sudden, and now my WINDSHIELD squirters NOT work, but from the same button that used to do my WINDSHIELD squirters?!

WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

I know someone on here has the patience to read this post, sorry it's so long. I have now spent around 3 hours trying to figure it out. Strange indeed...

sorry so long on the words, all details here are necessary...!!!

By the way, these HEADLIGHT squirters shoot out away from the headlights about 15 to 20 feet in front of the truck!!! this would only be useful for playing a sick joke on one of your friends by pulling up to them while they are standing there and start squirting at them with the headlight water cannon.

Glad you got the headlight squirts sorted:cheers:

Don't know what happened to your windshield squirts. Hopefully you didn't burn out another pump.

OOPS! I just re-read your reply to your original reply.

so the first part of my reply to your reply does not apply..

(confused yet?)

YES I AM!;p

That's EXACTLY why somebody turned those around!

thanks for your help guys, got the Taap wiper fluid pump today from Autozone and put it in, cleaned the nozzles real quick with a safety pin, and boom! Those things squirt far! almost go up and over the windshield.... haha
It was a burned out Toyota windshield wiper fluid pump after all.
appreciate the responses for help!

aloha,

I was able to fix my stock one.. You can bend the tabs that hold the cap on and more than likely, it's full of gunk that "siezes" it up. Clean it up and it'll most likely work like it did for me. Remember to add a little clear or black rtv to the rim of it to keep it sealed.

No. Windshield washer will work with headlights on or off. The headlight washer/squirters only work with the headlights on.
Are you saying the windshield washer should only function with the headlights on? Do I need to have the headlight washers hooked up as well in order to make the system work?

My headlight washer reservoir is cracked; is this why the fluid drains out the headlight nozzles or is there a missing spring valve supposed to be in there.

Echo the headlight spray "cannons" There is a lot of fluid that comes out of them! :)

Found it with another search! Yes, a check valve. found on Fleebay, Toyota OEM part number 85031-30020. Ain't cheap! :)

Mine are ancient and I have to be going at highway speeds in order for them to even squirt the windshield.... usually they just fire straight up over the truck:lol:
Yah had the same issue, easily adjustable though, they can be removed and adjusted (bending or just how position when tighting) made a huge difference was making all the cars behind me angry before this change ....
