got the chance to pickup what sounds like a pretty sweet 22re out pf an 85. just wondering if there are any major differences between that one and my 89. or is it a direct swap?

thanks

matt

The '89 will have more smog stuff and other small refinements. Otherwise they are the swappable.

If possible get the vin# for the vehicle you are getting it from so it is easier getting engine parts like gaskets, etc..

I think the electrical plug stuff may have had some changes... IE; injectors and such... But it should work.

Jarod is correct. While the sensors function the same, they will have different connectors (square vs. round). You can swap in the new sensors on the 85 engine. ECU will be different.

I would recomend using the intake and plenuim from the 89 onto the 85.This will take care of some of the plug issues plus the 89 plenuim would be an upgrade on an 85 engine. Also there is a difference in the resistance on the 89 injectors vs. the 85 thats why the plugs are different I would imagine. I put a 91 22RE in my 85 truck. Other than what I've mentioed it was an exact swap.

The 89 is what I consider a stand alone harness. means you can almost hook it up to just the ECU and make it run. It uses three plugs into the ECU plus a body plug

The other years use 2 plugs into the ECU. and 2 body plugs, one of which ultimatley connects as a third ECU plug. and the AFM harness is separate

So if you are gonna swap, take the other fellas advice and keep the electrical and manifolds with the same year.
