It is looking great. Seeing this makes me forget about my 40 and start day dreaming about the day that my 62 gets torn down.

Well, it's official, my new 1/4 panel is in the mail . . . or, I guess, on the bus would be more appropriate (GreyHound). That means that I have all the sheetmetal I need to get this bad boy back together! I'll start welding in the RR 1/4 this week, with the hopes of getting the LR done next week. By next weekend I would like to spray more epoxy, primer, primer, block sand, primer, primer, block sand, sealer, and then be ready for basecoat/clear coat shortly there after . . .

She’s getting close!

Alright, got more done on the cruiser, although; I don't have too many pics to prove it.

I've gone back through my parts pile (in the bed of that blue C10 in the background) to ensure I don't miss any parts that need to be primed/painted with the body. . . .that would suck. In addition, fenders are completely stripped, everything has been blocked out, I've started welding up the headlight washer holes (I hate the way they look), and I've got the quarter ready to be welded in.

After test fitting, checking, tweaking, checking, test fitting, hanging the rear door, looking at it 6000 times, checking, tweaking, and then looking at it some more, I think it's finally ready to be welded in. Take a look & let me know what you think.

No glass:

Glass (I really dig the way the de-chrome is looking):

All I can say is wow! Totally inspired, I think I need the shop and lift first.

:flipoff2: It's crooked, it sucks, just paint it already and give it to me. :D
~Preferably black, so it shows off all your shoddy worksmanship. ;)

*Have you made any final decision on the color yet, all jokes aside?

*Considered custom-cut tinted glass (versus sticky sheet)
or just going factory for all the windows rear of the front passenger/driver?
(Dechromed+LimoTint is great for camping/driving in the hot sun! IMHO)

**NemesisGnat(Tasso), you reading this stuff(?), take your rig there and get some of it cleaned up after you get a new engine!

:) Shane

I just took the time to read through your entire thread. It is outstanding to know that there are still people in this country capable of doing what you are doing and doing it for fun. In my job, I have to deal with people on an almost daily basis who cannot get out of their own way. I will look forward to seeing the outcome. Oh, and by the way, your shop must be making you a lot of new friends.

Come & get it. I'll help you load it on a trailer. :flipoff2:

I'm going with the factory 033 white for the body & then blacking out everything else. I made a pile last night of everything that needs to go to the powdercoater or get painted (bumpers, grill, bezel, handles, rear trim, fender vents, quarter vents, etc.).

My bumpers have a couple small dents in them now, I'm leaning towards painting them and then coming back later to build custom tube bumpers (put my tube bender & brake to work). All depends on how much they want to powdercoat the bumpers.

As for tint, I've considered it, but I really dig how the cruiser looks with clear glass in it. Dunno yet though, I may change my mind as it's all coming back together.

Just for the sake of debate..white w/ rear tints..

Although I do see your thought process, nothing like a completely clean fresh look like originally from Japan. I just was noting that if you were to choose a really dark tint the value of having the glass cut vs. "stickered".

For that matter, speaking in relation to stickers...any thoughts yet as to what real estate might be used for lets say, IH8Mud, TLCA, Toyota Preservation Society, Skinner Restoration Services?

Also, just my opinion again, after all of this work, once it is done, you really should consider putting together an actual album to keep, and a good photo shoot of the finished product...
(*as I send 4WDToyotaOwner Magazine this link and asking them to do an article.)

[It suffers from update withdrawl and puts the bump into effect.]

:bounce:

:flipoff2: you all! ;) How dare we let this thread fall 10 pages back!!

Gimme some updates or else I'll go back to fixing window channels on my Estate Wagon (glorified caprice). :D

LOL! I hear ya man, I hear ya!

I apologize; I've been sick for the last week. . . and my wife has recently been put on bed rest; which has kept me quite busy.

I promise I'll be working on it this weekend & I'll take/post some pics.

skinner I am flipping out right now, hoping for an update.
As of late I have been stuck working on my dads dodge 2500, its not a land cruiser thats for sure.

Okay, I know I promised some updates so here are some photos from this weekend:

The RR 1/4 is completely welded in now;

I welded in a new weatherstrip flange at the hatch opening (the old one was destroyed by the rust):

The LR 1/4 is ready to be welded in. Fixed the dent that Greyhound so graciously gave me. . .

I kind of got tired of working on the 60 this afternoon. So, I decided to roll out the tubing bender & build a pull-up bar. . .you know, to combat gaining any sympathy weight during my wifes pregnancy . . .:D

Who are you and what have you done with skinner??? Skinner would have never left that pullup bar un capped ! I need answer bud and I need em now!

LOL, good call. I should have capped the ends. . .

I threw it together half out of boredom. I've been getting sick of looking at my tubing bender sitting idle & I've let my gym membership lapse considering all the travel to Japan and what not; so I figured I may as well have the ability to work out while I'm in the shop.

Speaking of the tubing bender . . . I'm now thinking of building a custom crossmember for the 60 . . . and maybe some bumpers. We'll see.

Where on the frame was the serial number found?
Great shop, est on cost of the construction of your 30x36 shop, and what kind of engineer are you?

Serial # is on the frame rail; right front I believe.

As for an estimate on the shop. . . I've lost count; it really depends to what stage you're talking about?

BIG day, BIG update - - - She's in primer. . . (FYI, these pics are proof of why a home in a non-HOA neighborhood is important :D)

Shot all the bare metal parts with epoxy & then put a 2nd coat of epoxy on everything else.

My wife got this shot; I look pretty serious for shooting primer:
