The white knuckle portion of the install is now over finally got the tranny and transfer case mounted in the whole unit tucked in between the frame rails. Slowly started to put the pieces back together.
I started cleaning up the oil cooler and found it totally crammed with sand and gunk so I decided to install the simple filter mount I had in my treasure chest may swap it out later but for now this will do just fin

Thank you my friend - it is getting to be more fun every day. Living in Cairo I hope you have Air Conditioning in your rigs...;)

Oh dear, I can imagine, it's like a bug!
As it concerns my rigs, they are both in Peloponnese, Southern region of Greece....
However, stationed this academic year in Egypt, I will have a look for an A/C set and, hopefully, some other J40 parts in the broader Middle East area, including, of course, the Kingdom.

Took a few minutes on a quiet Sunday afternoon to sort fasteners. One tray for new from overland metric and one for old oem bolts and misc. very satisfying 👍

I am always surprised by the little projects that sneak up and take more time than you expected.
It’s funny how some major projects go so quick, you can lift an engine with the hoist and have it all out in 15 minutes, where as today I spent two hours just putting together radiator mounts and fixing the damaged dust shrowd. The shroud had been damaged beyond recognition, luckily I found a photo online and could bend it back into approximate shape and do some rough bodywork on it given it’s location and low visibility I think you’ll be just fine.

I had to install the radiator mounts on the donor crossmember so I had to get creative with how to hold the interior nuts since it was originally held on with rivets

Well I had to go and tempt fate I want to take a break and do something fun and easy to clean up and put the fan back on only to find that the belt housing and mounting points don’t lineup. I’m sure it’s not a good practice but since I was stuck with this water pump anyway I pulled off the old molding plate and swapped on the new one will see if she works

So today was supposed to be a light day putting the parking brake back together, like making a watch. But I come to find out you can’t slip the parking brake onto the transfer case while it is in the vehicle the crossmember interferes.

So drain some fluid, pull out the engine hoist lift it up enough to remove the crossmember then lower the transmission put everything in place and then reverse the process...... I’m tired!

Boy I could use a few more days like this everything is clicking along. I found a couple dust boots for the steering damper From a tractor supply company, that fit perfect snapped right on.
I decided to splurge and use some of my shiny new bolts for the fly will cover, well worth it. A lot of nice little bits and pieces are fitting back in and the drivetrain is all in place..

I know this is not a race but it was my goal to start bodywork in February and I plan to start stripping the tub next week. I know it’s the last week of the month but I unexpectedly lost a couple weeks to some other projects so I’m gonna call this on schedule.

I spent most of the day getting ready for the spring planting season, made a raised garden bed out of some old cedar fence boards lying around.

But I was able to do a little test strip on the troopy bed. I’m not a big fan of chemical stripping but I wanted to give this stuff a try since it’s much more pleasant to work with. Painted it on yesterday covered it with a little piece of plastic, and then this afternoon just a couple seconds with a wire wheel and it’s down to bare metal. I’ll try more later this week.

Took a break from bodywork today, and completed a nice to have and a half to have project and my cheap little blast cabinet. I repurposed some of the creating material from my metal building and put the blast cabinet on wheels so it’s fully mobile now. That was the nice to have, I also fabricated a new media wand that has much better airflow and now I get a steady stream of media at much lower pressure.

Are used some half-inch copper to make the suction wand and some three-quarter inch copper to make the vent tube. Then I cut a piece of three-quarter inch tube split it open trimmed it and made a filler between the two wands so I could side of the joint. So far so good

Next stop I need to improve the lighting inside the cabinet

I literally just did this last week on mine, but also added a new gun from TP tools. It is a night and day difference. Parts that I used to spend a half hour on now take only a few minutes. By far the best mods you can do to these cheap cabinets.

TP Tools blast gun

Got some new and used parts ( thanks John).

I’ve been installing hard lines and dryer for my compressor befor I can resume strings body.

Well one really big box showed up with a couple fenders and stainless steel mounting hardware from cool cruisers of Texas there after market but so far the quality looks pretty good.

I got my compressor line all set in place so now I should be ready for some more media blasting.

The blaster was working OK however I was going through media an alarming rate so I’m putting together a little blasting tent (16'x10'x10') to see if this helps I hope to at least get a couple cycles out of each tub of media

Looking excellent Scott! Been packing and moving boxes like an animal🙄. Sadly have not tinkered with either 40 recently. House in Surprise should be done in June. Did you use any type of sealer on the concrete floor in your garage? Trying to decide what to use when the time comes. Chat soon! Tom

Oh my - good luck with the move.

I have not done anything to the slab, I am formulating a plan but will keep that secret for now.

I love the look of a sealed / epoxied finish, but everyone I have seen shows age and defects so soon and they can never really be made to look great again.

Well I’m a slow learner, the tent works great but a home blaster just can’t handle a big job like this. It would take for ever and bankrupt me for media.

While I’m considering my options trying some new aproaches. I coated one panel and covered it overnight with some painters poly. That gets 75% off then one more coat and that gets the rest. I used a 4” grinder with wire wheel to clean it up.

There are at least 2 coats possibly more. Where there is only one coat ( rail under the top) it comes of great like soft butter)
