82 FJ40 tool kit location

Question. Where is the proper placement for the toolkit in a 82FJ40. Not sure if I am missing a braket to hold it in place. A pic would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

Starting 1/79, the tool kit was relocated to the top of the rear fender well on the passenger side.

Two brackets to hold down the rubber band and one to latch the band.

The hook on the rubber band (used with the under drivers seat took kit) is not used with this setup.

FJ60's had a similar bracket - you may be able to still get it from Toyota. If not it would be a pretty easy piece to engineer.

@Bones got one from Japan earlier this year. 75217-90300 displays with a price on Amayama.

I just went through this on my rig. I made up the bracket from a stainless steel hook I bought at West Marine. Worked out great

Both 75217 bands are priced on Amayama.com. The earlier band includes the hook, the later band does not. Being priced indicates that the part may be available. Follow the instructions on the site to submit a query, they will reply in a day or two with availability, price, shipping. The order can be confirmed at that time or discontinued.

Repro bands, without the hook, are available from several cruiser parts vendors.

The hook by itself appears to be available from Toyota as part number 58796-20012 - Hook, Jack Clamp.

Neither 75216 bracket is priced on Amayama.com. Check with Mud vendors that specialize in used parts.

The tool band hold-down bracket 75214-90301 is priced on Amayama, don't know if it is actually available. Otherwise, used parts vendors for these as well.

ThIs is what I ended up using. Bought the band and a bag of these brackets. I will use two in the back and one in the front. Cost me a whole $3.00 at Lowes.
