Will be at my sons’ swim meet all morning but did get the round headlight bezels cleaned up and painted. One was pretty beat up since it came off the wheeling rig but I was able to bend it back straight enough to work properly.
I wanted to start sanding the high build primer last night but decided to let it dry until today.
I should still have enough time this evening to get the truck ready for paint.

Anticipating I will have the truck back together this weekend. I ordered and EGR delete kit from LC Engineering.
I also went ahead and ordered the Holley sniper EFI. Hopefully these parts get here by the end of next week and I can install it next weekend.

Yesterday was too cold to spray. I put in a solid 5 hours in the garage. Managed to sand everything down with 320. The hood bed flares and driver side were finished with 400. I will finish sanding and cleaning everything tonight.

There is so much dust that I am thinking of tearing down my tape job and redoing it with clean tape and plastic. Not sure that I want to try to get away with just cleaning it.
If I do it’s going to add a few hours of work. My tape game is week at best.

I really want to paint tonight to let the paint dry and be able to work on truck tomorrow. If I wait until tomorrow I will pretty much lose the day since I will have to wait for the paint to dry and the fumes to clear. Plus I don’t want to pick up dust with the body still having wet paint. And on top of that there is no telling how cold it will be tonight. I might have to pull the out the propane heater and warm the garage if need be.

Here are some shots from last nights progress

there's that mexican work ethic showing :grinpimp:

Worked in the garage until 3:00 in the morning but got the truck painted and cleared finally.

Need to sand and raptor line the bed and start putting her back together.

I had some issues with the base coat lifting a little on the passenger door. Not sure what that is all about. The only fix will be to sand the door down and repair y and clear but that will have to wait and won’t let it take away from accomplishing finally painting the truck. The truck will be seeing heavy use this wheeling season so going to leave it like that at least until winter.

Todays progress was slow but started putting the truck back together.

Doors recieved the usual dynamat stuff to quiet the rattling noise of the metal. Then added sheets of ambient noise canceling foam

I ordered this hardware kit from Australia a few years back and I’m so glad I did. So much easier using new hardware. The truck has been apart for a few years so I’m also missing a lot of hardware.

Some people might not like these mirrors but the theme of the truck has always been improving on what was already there. The stock mirrors are useless. The truck only came with a driver side mirror also. These FJcruiser mirrors are nice and big and come with lights with I think makes them look cool. Just adds a little modernness as well as functionality to the truck.

This is where I stopped tonight. Most of the front end is put back together.

If you look closely you can see a gap between the center grill and the round headlight smaller grills.
That is becasue I went with the 83 SR5 grill which is meant for square headlights. I pulled the round head lights off my crawler and going to put the square lights that were stock on this truck.

The SR5 is the nicest of all the 80 -83 grills in my opinion so this is how I am going to leave it. I personally like the way it looks.

More progress today. It’s hard to tell progress but been in the garage all day. Finally buttoned up the front end. Got lucky and got a nice pair of lights from an ONSC club member for a great price. Welded on some tabs on the stock bumper and gave it a quick paint.
The lights complement the front end perfectly I think.

Incredible work!

Got a link to that hardware kit? All JIS stuff?

sorry. No link for the hardware kit. I found it on eBay like 6 years ago. Yes that is how long I have been trying to finish this truck.

It was like $250 or something like that. Plus the shipping from Austraila and it took forever.

I will quickly look and see if I can find it.

The Corbeau racing seats are comfortable as hell. The brackets they sell suck balls. The seat placement is too high. I have always hated how high the seats look and the driver position sucks. Your line of sight is literally the top edge of the windshield. Also getting in and out of the truck is very difficult because your legs are so close to the steering whee. I ordered a smaller steering wheel which has the bottom portion flattened out and it was still hard to get in and out.

Before redoing the insulation and soundproofing in the interior and putting it back together I went ahead and took some rough measurements and cut off the mounting brackets on the On the Bottom of the driver seat. I shortened them by cutting off 1.5 inches off the brackets then bent and Welded them back up.

Now the seating position is perfect and it is so much easier to get in and out of the truck.
Bolting the seat is a little harder now and welding around new seats was a little scary but it was def worth the effort.

Waiting on the new door locks with matching keys to come in so I can finish the doors.
Also, hoping I can find some of the rubber strips that go between the door and the window. I have 5 sets of doors and they are all junk. I was thinking I might be able to modify some from other Toyota models because I’m thinking they can’t be that different.

Ooh can you make those brackets for those of us who are welding challenged? Damn nice truck sir!

The brackets are sold by corbeau seats. They sell them specifically for your vehicle.
I just modified them so that the seat is much lower and in a better position. The 1.5 inches I took off the brackets made all the difference. Especially in such a small cab.

Yeah I saw that. I'm sure I can find someone to do the welding part.

I got the Holley sniper kit. I don’t want to start the installation until I have all the parts I need. I still haven’t received the adaptor plate from LC engineering along with a few other parts I ordered. I really hope I get the parts I need today to get started.
In the mean time I have been doing some wiring and finishing up the interior.
I can’t find the switch panels to finish up the wiring so I decided to fabricate a center console.
The carbeau seats do not leave too much space in the center between them so I can’t use an 80 series center console I planned to use. I took some rough measurements, made a cardboard template and transferred it to some sheet metal.
The center console has a front plate for light switches, much needed storage and I put some cushion on the lid to act as a much needed arm rest.

Half way done with the sniper EFI. I broke the gasket when I was installing the intake manifold so now I have to try to find one in the morning.
