Had a little time this weekend to work on the Scott, LA 80 between my FIL's van and my #1 daughters Cherokee (just shoot me now!). You would not believe the crap that came out of that filthy truck. After sorting through the parts and trash I had a used parts pile consisting of a computer, distributor, coil, plug wires, rotors, fuel filter, efi relays, and more I can't remember right now. There were receipts for the bumpers ($2,680 for the pair), radiator, PS pump, trans flush, mass air flow sensor, etc, etc. Both stock front and rear bumpers, carpets and floor mats, third row seats, etc. It was amazing! It took hours to vacuum all the dog hair out of that thing but it's starting to look much better now.
I told a few of you about the coil wire not installed correctly when I picked the truck up = easy fix. I took a short drive in it Sunday morning and found another performance issue. Each time I would hit a bump in the road the motor would cut out briefly but come right back to life. Got it home and after about five minutes of searching I found a broken wire in the harness near the alternator. Wiggle the harness and I could kill the motor. Fifteen minutes later that was fixed and it runs like a top now. I figure the guy paid some "mechanic" to sort his problem out and all the guy did was throw parts at the problem...
Spent a little more time giving it a good wash and it's even starting to look better! Paint is really dull with some stains but I think a good scrub with some rubbing compound will get the worst of the stains out and then a coat of wax and it will look even better. Only real problem I see is two rust spots around the rear glass. Think I'm going to watch the section on trucks being parted out and look for a better white lift gate and just swap them out.
