Is the vibration in the steering wheel or do you feel it more in the seat? Are you running a lift if so how high? Any slack in the wheel bearings? Check the u joints. Like Chris said one can be frozen. If you need u joints go OEM. I have yet found an aftermarket joint that fits right. If you still can't find the source give me a call 601-665-8588

You could have a frozen ujoint.

The old frozen ujoint line. Good one.

Somebody probably used conventional lube in the chassis bearings instead of synthetic. Or it could be a blown three-way valve in the upper relay assembly.

The vibration is felt thru the whole rig. 2.5" Ironman lift. When we did the brakes the bearings looked and felt fine so I repacked them. And thanks for the phone number. I'll call you if I don't get it figured out.

i say it's your tires being out of balance Bang bang. may also need to re tighten wheel bearing nut. mine came loose before after i changed the bearings.. did the whole spin the wheel this way tighten re tighten before hand dance and it still came loose.

well kids I learned something today.. one of my hard brake lines on the driver side was rubbing on the gas tank mount wore a hole in it over time. after I installed my self made sliders one of the mounts ( i made mine to be bolt on) pushed the brake line right on the gas tank mount. I guess it took around 5 years or so to wear a hole..

I noticed my brake pedal pressure would vary from time to time. I figured i had air in the line. so I thought after i replaced the front brake lines i would just bleed the whole system. this was a few weeks ago at Rob's shop. brakes felt like they always did after.

Here is the interesting part…

So yesterday I am studdin' around town and the brake pedal sinks to the floor decreasing my stopping power and pulling my gaze from the hottie on the right to go full WTF, eye bulging, butt clinching , I may have to run over the hottie holy s*** mode. It's an option on the 97 LXs. Here is the kicker.. i could still stop but not until i pumped the brakes.. so i made it home and crawled under the truck to see if there was a leak somewhere. I saw some type of fluid by the gas tank.. not dripping just on the gas tank and the frame .so i found that where the brake line was being cut by the gas tank mount.. turns out the mount was sort of keep ing the pressure in the system… it wasn't till i moved the brake line that it leaked on my face.. a lot.

So glad i found this before i lost brakes completely. Thanks Jrob for the parts. got it up and running and had a nice brake fluid shower to go along with it..

Pulled both front tires and hubs yesterday. The driver side bearing nut was a bit loose so I tightened the inner nut to 25 ft lbs (as per a mudder suggestion) and then re-set the outer. The passeger side was fine. Put it all back together and still have the same issue. I was able to get some grease in the zerks this morning but haven't had a chance to drive it yet. We'll see if that helps shortly. As for the tires, I really don't think that's the issue. I have felt that before and this is the entire truck for a short period as I get past 60mph, then it's smooth sailing. And the tires were just mounted and balanced at the Toyota dealer where the service manager is a member of LLK. He would have certainly said something if there was an issue balancing them.

You could lock the center diff and pull one drive shaft, drive around, check for vibes. Then put it back on, pull the other and check for vibes. That would tell you real quick.

That will tell which driveshaft needs new ujoints if you have a bad one. The vibes should go away when you pull the offending d-shaft. There's a diff-lock work-around if you don't have the switch.

If it's not the u-joints, make sure you swap them front & rear vs. swapping left & right. The vibes should move to or from the steering wheel if its an out of balance tire.

damn.

My hands got so black while Changing the brake lines...they almost mattered.

you could always just drive thru it. you go fast enough it will work itself out...

The fact that the vibes are in a range of speed still makes me think it's a tire out of balance. Like Cam said pulling each shaft will help rule out one or both d-shafts

Thanks for all the replies. I will swap the tires from the 40 onto the LX hopefully tomorrow to see if that fixes it. If so the tires are going back to the dealer for a re-balance. If not, I will remove the drive shafts one at a time.
