I ordered new motor mounts for the 78 FJ 40 I am putting together slowly. Both front mounts have a boss around the bolt hole on the top side. h However, there is not a recess in the bottom of the drivers side bracket which is bolted to the block.
Am I missing something here, or is the bracket wrong?
While on the subject, the up turned tab on the front motor mount goes to the outside, right?

Thanks gcrump01, I need the drivers side.
CHCP, if my machinist cannot hook me up I will be in touch, thanks.

Wonder about the application of the one I have on the truck? I have not seen a motor mount without the recess.

The ones you have on the truck are 58 through 1/75, the OEM motor mount rubbers were round and flat on top, I don't believe you can get them new any longer unless someone has NOS. The mounts changed to the square ones from 1/75 on. If you bought them from a vendor I'm sure they would replace their mistake of giving you the wrong year mount bracket, if you can't let me know.

It's plausible. But they would have had to drill the block-monting holes out from 10mm to 12mm to do that as well.

FYI, I still stock the early round motor mounts.

One of these days I'll need to stop in and say hello to Mark. Over the years, I've recommended his site to many... even though I've never met him... or for that matter needed to order anything from him.

On a random and somewhat related matter, I installed an Edelbrock SP2P intake onto my 40s SBC... despite the mixed (often negative) reviews. I felt if Mark was running one of them, all the negative opinions about them were irrelevant. I couldn't be happier :D It is quieter, smoother, and pulls better at low RPMs. It may adversely affect 4K+ RPM performance, but given it's a 47 year old stock(ish) motor, the rev limiter is set at 4K, so I'll never know. Thanks Mark... I'm glad I did the same.

After further looking I see that 8/80 through 8/87 FJ40 and FJ60 had motor mounts with studs bottom and top with a nut on the upper side of the bracket. Do you think, Mark, instead of the years I stated this is the bracket greenbeasty has on his engine? I was thinking the last time I looked up the round motor mounts it said they were discontinued, wish I had known you had them, I would have put them on the 63.

The 81up scenario is more likely Joseph.

My motor mount source is aftermarket.
