It rained and snowed all weekend. I did nothing... Someday Ill have a shop I hope. Ive got at least 14" of snow on the hood of the cruiser. Someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that its May. And I have a camping trip coming up at the end of the month I'd like to take the fj on.

I started on the outer rocker tonight. I tired improvising a break and it didn't work so well so the BFH came into play.
General pattern:

Now I just have to stick it on the truck. Ok back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Great job! I am going through the same repair on my driver's side, plus the crack.

I got the rocker in tonight. It doesn't look too bad. And little more grinding and some paint and Ill be on my way. Oh course as soon as I finished it started raining. :(

I picked up some 3M auto body sealant. Im not sure if it's paintable or not. Should I seal then paint or paint then seal? Im just going to use it to fill a few gaps much the the original sealant the came from the factory.

Also Im thinking about putting some sliders on instead of the old rusty running boards. But Id like it to look a little stock. Anyone have a suggestion?

Well I got it cleaned up and painted. I like it. It's not an exact match to the facory beige but it looks pretty good. And $3.67 a can who could complain.

Its not going to win any beauty competitions. But it sure feels good to get it back together. Now Im going fishing. Tranny tunnel and start putting it back together tomorrow. Ive got a trip at the end of the month... I might have to name it "Patch".

Well folks. Im back on the trail. Still lots of work to do but at least the floor boards are in decent shape now. I think Ill have to start on the rear sill next. But that's gonna be a bigger project I think. Had to build up a bracket for the drivers seat. It was toast as you can see.

Still a lot more to do. But at least it's back on the road for now. Ive learned a ton and I feel a lot more confident in getting steel glued to steel. Cheers folks.

with a skim of filler you'll never know that rocker is patched in. the floor looks nice.

When I do the whole tube Ill worry more about getting it looking better. I didn't spend a whole lot of time getting the welds looking flush. For now I just want to get the rust under control. Which I think I did all right at.

Looks good. Is that bed liner or paint ontop of the blue?

Yeah, that was cheap bed-liner from 2007. I just wanted cover the surface rust and the cherry paint at the same time!

900 miles round trip... between 13.5 and 12.5 miles per gallon. No problems. The radiator developed a small leak. About a cup a day. Guess it's time to throw in the town and buy a new one. Ive had it soldered once before. Im gonna start the next "small project" chasing rust. I think Ill start working on my fenders. Here some pretty pictures.

Taking a break at 12K feet. Ran just fine... minus it's lungs up there. LOL

Great fix work and super pics too! Glad to see the CCOT panel worked out well, may order the same panel for my '78 if my current fix does not hold up.
