Very nice! Have you decided on a final plan? Is it going to more of a restoration, daily driver, or trail vehicle? I'm actually thinking of starting the same thing right now, since I have quite a bit of time right now (thank you recession) and access to a full shop. I was planning on having the frame powdercoated, but after seeing the galvanized frame I think I like that better.

Do you mind me asking how much you have invested in it so far, and what you estimate the total budget will be?

Man, I admire your patience. Your work looks great...but I definitely don't have your patience. Keep up the good work.

I am doing more of a restification. I am not a hardcore off roader so I am looking for OK trail capability with adequate onroad manners as well. I am trying to keep most of the vehicle original, but making some upgrades like 4 corner discs, lift, and power steering. I don't think it will be my DD, but who knows once I see how it turns out.

Off the top of my head, I have probably invested 7K in this vehicle, with 4K of that being the purchase price of the vehicle 9 or 10 years ago, and 1.5K in engine rebuild parts. I have no idea what the total budget will be because I am trying to learn to do all of the work myself but might have to farm some of it out when I get to rust repair on the tub. My tub really is in good shape compared to most, but since it is off, I want to fix all I can.

haven't followed this build in a while. looks like you've made great progress. that frame is beautiful.

Thanks. Fixing to get back to this thing soon for another burst of activity. Just in time to enjoy some 100 degree days in the shop.

Awesome job! Looks great. I am doing sort of the same thing...restification that is. I have mine all torn down and ready to start cleaning, rebuilding, and painting/powder coating.

Question.... When you painted you Trans/transfer cases? Did you seperate them, or did you clean them together and just paint them?

I cleaned them up really well and painted them together. I did not separate them because the transmission/TXFR case is the original and only had 60K on it. When I was driving it there were no indications of problems so I figured the chances of me screwing it up were higher than the chances of me having to pull it apart later.:hillbilly:

Just read through your build! Great work. I don't feel so bad now about mine taking so long. ;) Life/work gets in the way on a regular basis. But hey it's about the journey not the destination in my case. :D

Keep the faith...

Nice job. I think we are about at the same stage. I am just now putting my 60 fj40 together. More of a restoration. Everything will look new and hopefully will be better than new when I am done.

Nice. So whats next now that you have the rolling chassis.

Once I find a good exhaust manifold, I am going to finish up the motor, mate it to the transmission, and drop it in.

Also gonna have to go on over to Coolerman's site and dig up info on redoing my wiring harness.

I'm kinda in ADD mode now. I have several things going at once and no clear direction of what would be the logical next step, so I keep slogging along slowly and one day it might come together.:D
