My son Harley and me started our first FJ build together and it caught fire.He was devastated. He wanted that one fixed so I bought a 76 and took the frame and running gear off the 72 blasted it, painted it and new body mounts. I cut the tail light rings off of the 72 and welded them to the 76 body. The 72 tailgate was not on the body when it burned so we had a good one. 200 hrs of body work and painting every night after work and on weekends . The only thing we farmed out was the seats. We are almost done and getting ready for our first trip this summer.

We were grinding the rust out of the drip rail and some headliner insulation started smoking so I figured I would get a hose and cool it done . Went and got the hose turned around and it was shooting out the windows!! The red is for the Chico Fire Department that saved it. It's farther along than the last pic. Just installed all new factory rented glass , looks cool. My buddy hooked me up for $400 for all glass

New glass that comes tinted any shade you like when you order. I made pattern of all the glass and had a buddy order it. I will post a pick .

Wow...Sorry about the fire. It's good to see that you are still sticking to the project.
Your tragic fire may have saved my pig from a similar BBQing. I am currently working on the roof rust and dents and have been grinding, power sanding, and heating with a torch. Didn't even think of that stuff burning like that. Today I am pulling off the insulation before doing more metal work. Thanks for the lesson.

You scored there too!

OK Gonz... Give up the info on the windshield. I know there are some people here who will want to know. I have got two from a place in Truckee and they were installed for over $200. Since you are in the Central Valley, I would bet there is a similar supplier. I'd love to get an extra and put it in the shed. Tahoe eats windshields. It's just a matter of time for me.

That spring over is going to ride a bit better than my 4 inch lifted spring"buckboard" suspension I bet. :steer:

No problem, I will get the info when I get back home to my buddy's shop. I can bring one up to you on the 5th when I get to Tahoe if you like

I'll have to take you up on that if you put it that way . I'll let you have a go at my parts box then... ha! ( maybe...)

Thanks for keep this section of IHMUD clean . My 9 year old son love this site. Harley is very active in our restoration and being 9 he reads articles that are post trying to tell me what we should do to our project and refers to you all as the "pros" I agree. Unfortunately Harley was looking through other sites on IHMUD and came across the "chit chat " section . After a few minutes he said "Dad some guy is really pissed at some guy named George". I read the section that he did and was very disappointed, foul language and idle treats we're the norm.Harley is looking forward to our maiden voyage this summer to a Oregon trail run and he has lots of questions now of what to expect from the 4x4 community.

Again hats off to guys to keeping this section clean and about having fun for us and or most important resource ... Kids

Gonzo,

My Son was very young, when I got a FJ40 and started building it. He's 40 now and still loves talking about when we pulled late nighters, working on the 40. It will be something that stays with him forever, enjoy it! oh,and he still doesn't listen to me :)
