Looks real nice interested in hearing about the durability. Thanks

Durability

Yup that remains to be seen but I have heard good things. I just kinda worry about picking such a light color but I like it now.

You know this is for light work, camping, and wheeling so I shouldnt be "precious" with it but you cant help it at first with all the work you put in---I guess you get over that after a few battle scars!

Well seems a shame to cover that nice white poly but I was concerned about wear and tear so in the end I decided to go over it with DURABAK.

The DURABAK isnt as pretty but it will protect well when I start hauling stuff around in it

your build looks great!

Nice dash cammo but i bet it doesn't come in handy while sorting through your wiring:doh: . The cammo got me , i had to double take just to see the wiring in your picture! lol

keep up the good work!

progress

Thanks

I still feel like I have a ways to go but it is starting to get exciting at this stage--I cant wait to fire up the 2F, lucked out on that deal I think.

here's a bit of advice for anyone doing a swap though, ask about what accessories come with the engine like the ignition system --turns out I got the engine and trans and T/C for $450 but a new ignitor if I have to buy it is over $300:eek::eek:

I hope to get one through my various postings begging for a used one:confused:

Then I needed an exhaust even though mine is good but a little rusty it wont adapt up to the 2f so added a MAF header and exh for $245

I used to be shocked by the prices for some of the commercially restored 40s but having got this far I now wonder that they can make a profit:eek:

next step is getting the 4 speed in and finding driveshafts to suit then I am going to have a little fun and get the soft top fitted and the new seats installed properly--woohoo!

Once again I have changed my mind on color--I had originally looked at Teal and even painted it on the eng trans cover, but it looked too JEEPY, "SHUDDER"
Then fire engine red--red 40s are sweet and I've never had a red vehicle but then changed to white. Nope, in the end I always liked Olive Drab but having been in the military I know it can get oil stained and look dirty and I like a bit of shine, then I found this color and knew that had to be it. I think it goes okay with the Tan Durabak interior too.

Having said that when it is all done I think I will be holding on to her for a long time this will be one of the coolest rides I've ever had--- so no regrets (or disposable income)!:lol::lol:

Well enough Chat---this is supposed to be a build thread:bounce::bounce::bounce2::bounce2:

PICS

More Pics? I know I know, but first comes the work!:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

I'll be posting the soft top install soon and my new Summit racing seat adapters

I already have the paint on the way so I might shoot up a fender or the hood for some inspiration in the middle of all this knuckle-scraping work! kinda fires you up to see the new and shiny bits, doesnt it? But I am most stoked on this motor---I'll be firing up and pulling it into the driveway any day now, Man that will be a great day!

thanks for the good words

Great Thread!!

One question- what prep did you do to put the polyurethane on top of the por-15? I'd be interested in doing something similar on mine. Thanks! ty

4 speed 2 F

Well I have a 4 speed 2F now! A couple days ago I came across a working 8274 warn winch--having been a little bummed at the prospect of losing my pto winch for good with the 4 speed I was glad to stumble upon this.

To Do List

Well,

Have some goodies on the way and made contact with Jim C about doing my dizzy and carb

I need to get a complete pedal to carb throttle linkage from a 2f
I also need an air cleaner but I am enquiring in the classifieds about one now.

I have to mount the altenator on the 2F and hook up the engine and get it ready to fire up! Must not forget to service the tranny transfer case and engine with oil

Dealing with a pesky brkn bolt from removing the oil pan also

The parts on the way include the dark olive drab paint, MAF header which Jim C said he likes for the 2F. Jim thinks he can get 12-15 MPG from my 2F with the carb and dizzy build. That'd be nice but not a daily driver anyway. still cheap fun is better than expensive fun! Last, but not least my man in PA who sold me the 2F hooked me up wih an ignitor for my dizzy, nice guy--only wanted the shipping for it Oh yeah and I ordered a cheap winch bumper for it. it was JOETLC I really like the HFS bumper but I'm feeling the pinch of all the spending and want to hold back a little for the "surprises" that are sure to come my way.

I have my scout steering set up to install yet but am still toying with the idea of mini-truck for ease of install, think I would like a tilt wheel too so maybe a toyota set up? but first I want to get it on the road

also ordered a 3fe head and eaton M-90 supercharger
(NO JUST KIDDING!)

In the mean time I have my soft top to install and the clutch slave cylinder and my seat adapters and seat. I am also ordering a gallon of the smooth durabak to touch up when I am all done so it will look all brand new for the first day out!

Problem is I have to travel away for a month for work. After that though It is flat out to get it running!
